Amen mr tpowers. For the record everyone, the E-tape actually worked. Andy, you're a pimp. It doesn't look all that good though so I'm heading back tomorrow to switch things up a bit but that's a hell of a trick to add to the collection. Thanks for all the advise peeps. I'll let you know how it turns out tomorrow afternoon.

I can't take credit for the idea, someone else around here told us about it a long time ago. It may not be pretty, but it works.

lets not forget one important thing. if youre not using some flavor of an automation system in a 30 million dollar home, youre leaving money on the table. whether the system was already in place or not, shouldn't matter.

electrical tape is not a hack job by the way - it's a stop gap. get an ir shield if you absolutely have to use ir.

if you feel you need to clean up the electrical tape between emitter and ir receiver, cut the electrical tape to the exact size of the ir's circular window, and place the emitter.

I just place the eye slightly off to the side of the receiver and I never have issues...

So Andy....

Let me make sure I understand this. I take a small piece of electrical tape and put that on the receiver then place my emitter on TOP of the electrical tape?

For everyone else. You can order the soft rubber Niles covers directly from Niles for something like .75 each. These are much better than the stiff plastic covers from Speakercraft..
