Anybody know if the Kwikset locks also work with RTI? A client keeps asking about it. They see it works with Control4 but they have RTI. Thanks

How are the locks controlled?
Contact closure maybe?

I just looked at the Kwikset website and it appears they make a line of locks that are Zigbee and/or Z-wave enabled. Looks cool because they can give status feedback as well as recieve commands from a controller. Bad news is this means RTI must make a driver before we can integrate these locks.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think RTI's zigbee remotes can communicate to native zigbee devices. I think it's similar to the 433. The remotes communicate back and forth to the ZM24 via zigbee, but they can't communicate directly to a zigbee device. It would be cool. however, if it could be done. I don't know that much about the zigbee protocol.

Not to bitch but I don't think RTI has plans to develop zigbee drivers. Has anyone heard otherwise?

No, and since they can't even get 232 drivers out in a timley fashon, by the time they get to zigbee, if ever, that quickset model will probably be obselete.
On a side note, as I know very little about the zigbee protocol, how secure is something like that (the lockset) to hacking?

depends on what you want to do. The devices I've seen are zwave. One way control shouldn't be too hard with RTI connected to an RZCOP. The last time I looked into it, the device is normally locked...and can be momentarily unlocked via zwave to get in....would think it would be pretty simple to then unlock the front door from a remote or in-wall.
Now...having it send you an email when the door is unlocked from the outside like control 4 can do...is going to take a little more than just a driver.

[Link: kwikset.com] Well I would simply like to see the control codes for this so that I could try the RZCOP and see how the lock behaves email feature or not this is cool
