in nevo studio pro software,
they had a really nice option to evenly spread icons among a common space.

in other words,
i can select 5 icons, click a button,
and it would evenly space them.

any way to do this in ID 7?

It doesn't have to depend on the grid. You can select/highlight a group of icons or buttons. The button that is solid red is your anchor position. With your mouse you can left click and hit shift to change your anchor button. From there you can align the rest of the highlighted buttons to the same vertical or horizontal position. You can't just auto adjust all icons to fit. The align buttons are in the toolbar.

but that doesnt help with even spacing between them does it?
that just aligns them.

Nevo does do a better job of accomodating the installer with graphics and placement. It can accept a background of any size and will sretch/shrink it to fit on the remote as well. You can evenly align objects and space them out with a click of a button.

When I cam doing a lot of graphic work I have to sit there with a calculator for placement. It would be great if RTI improved on this.

They probably will. Crestron adds little updates like this every once in a while. The most recent that i noticed was the ability to 'distribute between objects'. Previously all you could do was distribute them across the entire page. Now you just set the first and last button apx where you want them, distribute between objects and align to the top/bottom/side whatever.. and your done. I always felt like VTPro-e was archaic until i started working with other software. RTI and Nevo and Pronto have some very nice features but a few more couldnt hurt :).

When I design custom pages in ID, one of the first pages I generate contains several 1-px. by X-px. bars that I copy and paste as references for aligning graphic elements. The lengths are determined by how many elements are being aligned, and how I want them to fit on the page.

I've saved them to a template file with each remote that I program, then I import the ones I need into the client file, and delete them when I'm done.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
