how do i write these rs-232 commands? i cant get this tv to respond at all. help please this tv was hooked up using amx and it worked over rs-232. do i have to change something ? wiring? crossover cable from tv to xp8?

Yes, you do need a crossover cable.

i switched the pins 2 and 3 on the rj-45 side going into the xp8 and still cannot get anything to respond, i checked the baud rate and parity and start and stop bits everything looks good but this is frustrating, my code is ka 1 0\r for off and ka 1 1\r for on

Can't go too wrong with the codes, other than that, when trouble shooting I wouldn't swap pins or anything at this stage. use a patch cable and a null modem cable to be sure, when that works, go from there.
