I have been buying these little guys for years and I get a little pissed everytime I do since I have not had the time (or patience) to rig up an adapter that could do what this does. I have 4 projects (including our new showroom) I need them on coming up shortly and am getting the order ready (about 20) and I was wondering... Has anyone has come up with a more cost effective alternative to the CM232 module?

Maybe a combination of other parts/adapters?
Maybe a similar unit by some other manufacture?

They do the job, I'll give em that, but man what a price tag on that little guy.

Apparently, there is a small circuit board inside the head of the CM232 that does more than just pass data and such. What this is, i dont know. This keeps them from being homemade.

That's one thing I'm really happy about with ZRP-6.  I almost never used rs232 on our jobs that had an RP-6 in it because I couldn't justify the cost of a couple CM232s.  Now we've got two built-in 232 ports so I'll be using 232 every chance I get.  No extra cost, nothing extra to order, no little part that you thought you had in the truck but you actually didn't, etc...
