I don't like buying product for my customers from on-line retailers but the reviews say it's the s**t. Anyone test this damn thing or reviews from those of us who actually install & program? Also, anyone have the oppo rs-232 codes written?

They (Oppo) so far have made great DVD players, no reason to believe the Blu Ray player will be any different. We have installed a couple of them so far with no issues. As noted above the RS232 codes are available on their site and are pretty easy to deal with.
If your client knows of them and that they are sold on line, just add a handling + installation fee. It should get you more $ than you would have if you sold them a Sony or other brand.

I've done a few of them, the performance is topnotch. Fast!

The IR input on the back works with some kludging (do a search, it's around here somewhere). I've put an emitter on the last few... even though it's not my first choice.

The RS232 model costs a little extra, and I haven't had an opportunity to do the control via 232.

The rear IR port is a stereo mini, 5v, gnd, signal

For the HM-31 and the DV-983H, BDP-83 use a 3.5mm head which includes a tip, ring, and sleeve (<=||=||=|). The tip is a 5v signal, the Ring is the IR signal, and the sleeve is the ground. Most standard 3.5mm cables are just the tip and the sleeve (<=||=|). With a standard 3.5mm cable the ground signal is not present, which prevents the signal from being processed correctly. You will need a 3.5mm cable at at one end has the tip, ring and sleeve and at the other end has the tip and sleeve only
