I am looking at switching over a clients system to an aprilaire/xp8. He mentioned he'd be interested in checking his thermostat settings when he is traveling around. I've looked into several software packages in the past but they weren't very good/reliable.

I am just wondering if there are any quality products you guys have installed that worked well with the aprilaire/xp8 for remote viewing. I'd prefer one that doesnt need a pc to run 24/7. Looking for a solid reliable product. Thanks.

HAI!!! easy done works... not sure if you can can get 2 way control with the HAI with the rti but in theory its possible.
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

You're not going to be able to do anything THROUGH the XP-8 that will give you any sort of remote viewing.  You would need some sort of remote viewing 'appliance' for your thermostats, then you would just attach the XP-8 to it for control in the house.  Unfortunatley, your HVAC with 2-way is limited to Aprilaire for now.  Not sure if they make a remote access piece.

This is definitely in the realm of Homelogic or Control4 and is easily doable with both.  When RTI gets their version of X-panel out you'll have a lot more options...

Aprilaire has a unit called the 8825 that works with the 8870 thermostats which is basically a webserver for the thermostats. It uses java for the web interface so unfotunately it can't be view directly on a K4.

I believe in the last issue of CE Pro there was an ad that stated that RTI's 2-way controls now offer the remote control of the home from anywhere. Just as though you were using the remote in the home.

Perhaps it's just vaporware at the moment or RTI's greatest kept secret.

Yes, that would be vaporware.  :)

You could hire an Ompa-Loopa with a camera phone to stay at the house.

ROFL, Thanks for the great suggestions guys (including the Ompa-Loopa haha). I'll look into the aprilair 8825. This project won't be for a bit, so i'm hoping RTI comes out with their virtual panel soon. *crosses fingers and laughs*

The 8825 grabs hold of the whole system and does not play well with others, I ran into this on another job. It is used for a maintenance guy to run it. It is very easy to accidentally turn off the heat or to set it to a potentially damaging number, in the north east you do not want to turn the heat off right now. I refused to give a customer the IP address of this device because of the risk of catastrophic potential damage if the home owner goofed up the settings. Other than that it works well.

I've read all of the manuals from the Automation current manuals section. It looks like that would be perfect. i downloaded the software demo/server program tried it out for a bit. i think i could just bookmark the viewer url and let him look at that. My client is technically challenged when it comes to stuff like this. If i can hide the configurator URL that would do the job. Trick is trying to pass through the firewall. Not giving them IP address would be smart though, just incase they were nosy.

With the exception of the 8825 module and it's ridiculous price this should be a nice integration. Thanks guys :)

Try this out. Won't work with RTI right now, but hopefully someday
http://www.networkthermostat.com/

One thing to note on the aprilaire, 2 systems can not controll it, so you can't have RTI control, and WAN control.

RTI's X-Panel will fix that, but who knows when it will be out.

The networkthermostat has 2 RS232 ports, so you could control it WAN from the remote software, and 3rd party when someone writes the drivers
