I work for a company that installs both RTI and Control4. I only control my theater right now but want to branch to more intergration in my next home. I have an T3, K3, U2, several RK-8s, and an RP-6 for control, and am thinking about upgrading to the XP-8. Will this enable me to control lighting, thermo, and any other relays, etc... with individual timing? I want to be able to control things like Control4 does, i.e. - If/Then statements and macros ran at certain times or under certain circumstances. I don't want Control4 for I already have a large amount invested in RTI already and really like their product. I just want to be able to have more control over lighting and timing of events. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you do any of the RTI installs? If so you should know these answers. Not trying to be a jerk but these are pretty simple answers for anyone who has any experience with RTI.

Stick with RTI because it is much better than Control 4. Plus you already have the equipment. Currently the only thing you will be able to get feedback from is the K3. There is a whole list of drivers on RTI's website of products they support. Although some of the drivers are incomplete most will provide good feedback for a lot of functions. You should be able to get the XP8 for an extra special price through their dealer accommodation program. Yes you can do Vantage and Lutron for lighting and Aprilaire for thermostats. They also have relay control, voltage sensing, and contact closure capabilities.

We just moved someone from a theater only to whole house by adding an XP-8. Turned out very, very well. Using the Aprilaire thermostat gives two way thermo. Several options for lighting. Events from the XP8 take care of the individual timings. Also tied into the HAI security camera and added panasonic cameras. You can arm/disarm the system from the remotes, change thermostat setting, in walls jump the the specific camera views when motion is detected. I'd say you won't be missing anything sticking with RTI

Yes I do some of the RTI installs, but the full extent of what we use them for is to take the place of a couple of remotes on a single tv system. Never sold anything but t2+ and C, and RP-1. AMX does the high end, and now Control4 does the lower priced homes. None at my work has any training or very detailed experience with RTI (a shame I know) Nor are they willing to get us trained. It will probably phase slowly out due to Control4. I really like RTI and know it can do tons more than I do with it now. I am trying to learn and piece together all I need to do what I want in my next home. Just want to maximize it's capabilities. I wish I did know the answers and knew what to do, but I am trying. Thanks again to all.

Do you have access to their site? Do you have access to their software? If so play around. The site offers training videos you can watch. Play around with the software to see what it has to offer. I've spent hours and I mean hours just playing around with sample files and templates.

Create a new file named new home. Import all your existing remotes and the RP6. Convert the RP6 into the XP8 and began seeing what you can do. You should be able to get a good feel if RTI can do what you want.

This is really the best advice above, watch all the videos and build some mock systems, all of your questions and more will be answered . RTI should really be in there between AMX and control 4, In fact most of your AMX jobs can probably be done with RTI

I know that RTI could do probably 80% of our AMX jobs, but when people have money to burn, they want to keep up with the neighbor. lol I will take your advice and just play around with it. I have macros and flags and simple things down that the videos show, but I will trial and error it as I go. Thanks and any more advice is always appreciated.
