FWIW - I can't get the 2-way driver to work with an Elite VSX-94TXH.  I can get normal rs232 commands to work, but no 2-way.  Actually, the 2-way driver keeps forcing the receiver to turn on every time I turn it off.  I guess the 232 protocol is mapped differently and something from the driver is matching up to this receiver's power on command.

I think it is written around the SC series although the VSX-94 use a lot of the same commands. The problem with the VSX-94 units is that any command will "wake" the unit from standby because the processor went to sleep. It was part of conserving energy and they took it too far. The new units do not suffer from this problem. The fix for your 94 is to send a dummy command, I always set the volume to -40db and then send a power off command. This way if it was off, the vol set command will turn on and put it to a known state.

I have used the driver on a SC-27 and it works fine.

I think user NSP01 could clarify this, I think he works or worked for Pioneer.

EricS,
You are correct about the VSX-94 and the sleep state of RS-232.
Last years' SC-05 & SC-07 (not the SC-09 BTW) and all of the 2009 Elite models have the new RS-232 circuit that behaves the way it should.
There is still an anomaly with a power state request when the receivers are off; there is either no response or a partial response.
Your work-around looks good for the VSX-94. Another suggestion is to leave Zone 2 or 3 on all the time so that RS-232 will is always awake.

Interesting, but I wasn't getting any feedback from the unit either.  Plus it would always turn back on even when I wasn't sending any commands or doing anything.  I ended up just using one way 232.

Make sure you don't have a port conflict, this can happen if you have more than one driver assigned to the same serial port, the most common symptom of this is getting only sporadic one way control and weird phantom behavior.

No, no port conflict.  I only have the Clock, Weather, Escient, and Russound drivers installed right now.
The Pioneer is/was on port 1, the Escient is IP, and the Russound is on port 2.

The only thiing I don't like is that the Escient driver shows that you have an rs232 port selected even though you have TCP selected as the protocol.  The serial port drop-down should grey out or flip to N/A or something like that.  It does happen to show that it's connected to port 1 even though I'm not using 232 for it.

So you guys are saying I should be able to get 2-way from this receiver?  Just with some funky standby power behavior?

Ah Ha, it looks like you do have a port conflict, I know you are using IP with the escient, however it defaults to RS232 port 1 until told to be something else, I had this same problem, so even though you are using IP you need to go in and change the escient driver to an unused serial port and then switch it back to IP, I know this sounds wacko, but what I think is happening is the XP8 is reserving port 1 for the escient, so you need to tell it to let go of that port so another driver can take full possession of it.

I hope this works for you

Hmm, well I appreciate the thought but it isn't working for me.  I reinstalled the Pioneer driver, moved the Escient to serial and put it on unused rs232 port 8, saved and downloaded to the XP-8, then put it back to TCP control, saved and downloaded to the XP-8.  I get no feedback from the Pioneer, but Driver Commands work perfectly.  Also, putting Zone 2 on does keep it from turning back on every 2 seconds.  Ah well, I'll stick with one-way control for now...

In the future you can also check the front panel status display under mpio this will often reveal the source of odd behaviors.

sorry two way did not work out
