I have been fooling around with the software, trying to get it to do what the Pronto with the IR543 will do. Has anyone have a system that they would set up a lighting system. I have 8 lights to control, most of them with dimming capabilities. I am assuming I would have to set up the lighting to work only with the LCD Screen. At first thought it looks like you can only set up 2 lights per page. One line for the name and four buttons for on, off, dim and bright. Has anyone tried a different setup?

X-10 operates differently. There are numbers, from 1 through 16, then there is "on", "off", "dim", "bright" and "all off". Separate commands for each light ID do not exist. So, everything is a macro. For instance, with the IR543 you could have:

* ID 1
* On
* 0.1 second pause
* ID 3
* Off

I have each X-10 command repeat three times (remember this is set under the "edit infrared command" screen).

I copied over my hex codes from my Pronto File. So what I have is a new remote setup with all numbers 1 - 16 with hex codes with discrete codes for dim and bright for all the numbers. I am not sure all this will work. So my X-10 controls only use the LCD screen with 4 buttons with all macros for each light. It just seems like a lot of space with the possibilty that I might have a hard time hitting the small buttons with only 1x1 size.

Noticed that the sample library contains the X10 commands for the IR-543. But how would I use e.g. the 1/5 ID in a macro to control IDs 1 and 5 separately?

BTW, does anyone know if the X10 console at [Link: smarthome.com] uses the same IR codes (looks like it is in fact an IR-543)?

Another question to add to the previous....the description of the X10 controller above says that it can control up to 16 X10 devices. Yet the unit has buttons for only 8 devices (4 ID buttons and a selector switch for 1-4 or 5-8). How would I use the unit to control devices 9-16, and where would I get the IR codes for these IDs?

Here's another thought on programming the T2 for X10 control. Use the LCD screen only to send the "device" command (or you could use the keypad for this as well, as long as you could remember which number corresponds to which lights). Then, program the cursor keys to send the X10 control commands (e.g., up for bright, down for dim, left on, right off). So to turn on your living room lights, for example, you press the LCD button for Living Room, then hit the left arrow button for on. To dim the lights, hit the down button however many times you want to dim the lights.

This is the way I plan to program my X10 control (I have a Homevision controller that I can send IR commands to and have it then execute an X10 command). Just haven't had time to do it yet. But this system will save space on the touchscreen (so you don't need four buttons for each device) and I think makes better ergonomic use of the T2's hard buttons.

I honestly don't know what they mean by 1/5, 2/6 etc. Though the IR-543 only has 4 physical buttons (selectable between 1-4 and 5-8 with a switch) there ARE 16 individual IR command available for controlling IDs 1 through 16. I suggest downloading a Pronto X-10 configuration (along with ProntoEdit) and dropping the hex codes into the TheaterTouch converter.

Some controllers only handle 4 units, and you can select whether you control units 1-4 or 5-8, hence the 1/5, 2/6 and so on.

On my T2, I have various approaches. In my HOME page, the Channel + and - turn on / off the main HT lights with normal click, and the media library lamps (which are also in the HT) if held down. Additionally the "off" for the main HT lights will also turn off the media library lights.

On the X-10 device page, the LCD buttons are used for on and off macros for specific areas in my house, while the numeric pad is used to enter unit numbers, the left and right cursor buttons send the on / off commands, and the up and down cursor send the bright / dim commands.

Just wondering, exactly how many IR to X-10 converters are there? Wasn't aware that there was a whole lot of choice.

OK, I think I wil buy the unit at smarthome.com. Looks like it is an IR-543.

So...I downloaded ProntoEdit and loaded a few .ccf files that had X10 commands, and copied the hex codes (thanks for the tip Daniel).

I would actually like to pillage a few more Pronto libraries and hunt for discrete ON/OFF and Input codes etc. But when I download a .ccf file for e.g. a Sharp VCR, I get a whole Pronto config. The libary always only shows generic Philips stuff, so basically I have no idea which devices I am really looking at. Quite confusing. Oh well...I'll ask the Pronto forum...
