I normally use flags on systems when a processor is involved; macros are much shorter since no start up delays.

But on stand alone mode? If that 'power on tv' is missed...

I pretty much answered my concern, but was wondering what other guys do?

How does power on TV get missed?
Are you referring to the user not pointing the remote at the TV, so it ends up not coming on? Now your flag has been set and they would have to hit power off to clear it, correct?

Using macros with long wait times on an IR only remote can be tricky. The client has to understand that by not buying the whole kit (even an RP1 can help) they have to put up with this possibility. And may have to press other buttons to get things "reset".
Or you give them TV on / off buttons if using a remote with a screen, jump to a please wait page then to source selection. By now they should be able to select what ever they want and have no issues with switching inputs.
Better than expecting them to "hold" the remote while all the codes are being spit out.

Not to flag. That is the anwser! (at least for me)

I don't like doing flags for the reason you are concerned about. The customer can wait 8 seconds. I would rather it be done right then have them wonder why the TV isn't on.

I am working on a T1 right now for a bedroom system...TV is a toggle power.

I set it up with a flag to track TV power, But have a button for TV power if it gets out of sync. The extra button does not have any flag on it so it can get the system out of sync if not used right. all sources are video except tuner.

We will see if it works ok or not, I did a similar system a few months back with the receiver was poer toggle and it had a flag to keep track of the rec power and its been working awsome with no issues.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

what I do is setup two macros a wake from off macro and a wake from on macro. Setup flags to determine if it is the first time since power down client has pressed source key. If it is the first time I wait for tv to turn on then send commands if its not then I send the same codes without the wait. Customer will have to hit source key three times if they miss the first time but I think that is better than waiting every time you hit source.
