I have used RS232 control before with XP8 and HR21Pro Directv receivers without any issues. I have also used 232 using an RP6 and HR21.

Today I was trying to use 232 to control a HR23 from an XP8 throug the BAFO USB adapter approved by Directv and could not get it to work. I first tried a custom cat5 cable with wires 5 & 6 swaped on one side, then with a premade cat5 cable and a null modem adapter. I did reset the receiver after i hooked up the the USB and other cables to the XP8.

Any other ideas would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Kurt

You said you reset the receiver, but that is not enough. You will need to remove power from the receiver, install the USB serial adapter, and then power up the receiver. The receiver apparently only checks for the USB adapter on power up (at least that is the case for the HR20 & HR21).

Have four boxes hooked up to an XP-8 via CM232s. Three of them needed to be reset as the Guc232 light was solid and there was no control of the HR23s. Then they work for a while until the USB adapters lockup agian.
