I'm at a customer's house, existing XP-8 and RK3, I'm adding a ZM24 and T3VZigbee. Updated the XP8 no problem, but can't get the RK3 to update.

Any ideas? Anyone else have this happen to them before?

The instructions in the firmware all the say the same thing, but all the products don't work the same. Follow these instructions exactly and it should work.

1. Close both ID and the firmware program. Unplug the USB.

2. Open firmware update. Hit next to get to screen that tells you to plug in.

3. Plug in USB. Now hold channel up and press reset. Hold down channel up for 30 secs, not 5. Release, then wait a few seconds and press next.

4. This should work, if it doesn't restart computer and try again.

I got it after restarting everything and trying again.

Thanks for the advice.

Now I think I have a bad ZM24 and didn't bring an extra with me, fun fun.

That's no good. Hooked up straight to the XP8's RTI.COM port?

Do you have multiple ZM24's in the job?

The key to doing upgrades on an RK3:

Start the software-

Click next-

When prompted to insert the USB into the keypad, do it... wait AT LEAST 30 seconds-

THEN continue with the directions-

It has something to do with the USB taking extra time to load or something or other.

It took me about 30 attempts to get it to work myself. The firmware updates are a little archaic. The directions make it seem so straightforward, but in reality it's a variable experience. Can't they make this firmware updates a little better than do this, do that at the same time while doing this, etc.?

If you guys follow my advice above (Let it sit for AT LEAST 30 seconds to a minute after you plug in the USB) it will work every time.

Once I started doing that (After Brett told me the trick) I never had another problem.

I'm not saying it should be that way, or that it doesn't need fixed... just how to make it work.

I always hold the up key, hit reset, release the up key after the screen reboots (3-5 seconds) then start the firmware update software after...works everytime.

Just a note that I had this problem too. I'm not sure if it matters but the firmware that I'm using says hold the VOLUME UP button not the channel button. Might be the same for both buttons.
It did work finally holding the volume but as SAAudio mentioned...30 seconds...not 5...that seemed to be the key to success.

Thanks SAAudio =)
