Hi:

I've been so happy with my T2/IRF6 that I have not kept up to date with this forum for awhile now. As I peruse the threads, I noticed mentions on CM232/RS232 accessories for the T2. My question is, what to they do and how will this improve a very reliable T2/IRF6 setup that I have now. My equipment consist of:

Pioneer Elite Pro RPTV
Lexicon DC-1
Bryston 9B-ST
Sony 5 Disc DVD-Changer
Pioneer Laserdisc
Sony 400 Disc CD Changer
Phillips Tivo PVR
Sony VCR
Digital Cable Box
Marantz CD Recorder
Sony Mini-Disc Recorder
2 Panamax 1000+

I listed the equipment just in case the new CM232/RS232 would make a difference to my current T2/IRF6 setup.

Thanks..................Joe.

Joe,

232 serial control probably won't do you much good in your theater. I've been using them for some serially controllable devices where particular discrete IR codes do not exist. Sony Plasmas and some Faroudja boxes in particular. The new Sony Plasmas don't even have an IR or S-Link jack on them(stupid) and I don't want to use emitters.

I'm not sure that anything you have listed is serially controllable....if it works reliably for you--don't mess with it.

Best.

FYI

Just to inform all RTI owner's. The RS-232 adapter is in stock. I belive most dealers should have these in stock now. About time!

The part number is: CM-232
RS-232 Communication module.

The CM-232 communication module provides an RS-232 interface to almost any RS-232 enabled device. It attaches to an RTI control system such as the IRF-6 system on one end, and a device's DB-9 serial port connector on the other end. The CM-232 is capable of one-way transmission (no receive function is supported) of user-defined character strings. These character strings, as well as the baud rate, parity, and bit structure are programmed using RTI's TheaterTouch Designer software package.

The cable itself is a 12' cable with custom 3.5mm 4 pin Mini-plug

NOTE:
PIN (3) - TRANSMIT DATA
PIN (5) - SIGNAL GROUND

SPECS

RS-232 Commands are transmit only.
Supports industry standard RS-232 control protocols.

Baud Rates: 110,300,600,1200,2400,4800,9600,19200,38400,57600

Data Bits: 7 or 8
Stop Bits: 1 or 2

Parity: None, Even, Odd, Mark or Space

Connector: DB-9 Male

Note: Reason for posting, It took RTI way to long for these to be released. I know we had a bunch of people looking for them. This posting was not ment for any Unsolicited advertisements - Just a (FYI)

Joe,
The Lexicon DC-1 can be controlled via serial inputs. It gives you a few more commands not available via IR. If you really want to tweak the DC-1, go for it. Otherwise direct hardwire IR to the back input works for most everything.

Hi:

What is the advantage of the RS-232 over the current my current configuration using IRF-6? I'm a bit confused and would appreciate an "RS-232 for Dummies" explanations.

Thanks.........Joe.

RS-232 is for control of devices that have RS-232 (AKA serial) ports. Does any of your equipment have that?
