I don't know if I would go that far, the RTI is designed to control a complex system and has many features the MX-500 does not. In my case, I realized that my equipment did not really require any of the RTI's more advanced features. When I really looked at what I needed, it turns out the RTI has more power than I will end up using. :)

I think it all comes down to what do you really need and want. The RTI is overkill for my equipment, but if I had a more complex system the RTI's advanced macro functions and the ability to add power and signal detection components would probably turn the tide.

When I look at what I actually use the RTI for, the MX-500 compares favorably. The MX-500 is far less expensive. When you throw in the extra hard buttons and nice remote layout, the MX-500 becomes even more attractive. The extra hard buttons really seal the deal because they make it very easy to control the TiVo. If I did not have a TiVo I think I would be pretty happy with the RTI remote. TiVo just uses so many buttons during it's everyday use that unless you can fit them on hard buttons, you will yearn for the actual TiVo remote. Using a devices real remote is what I am trying to avoid by switching to a universal remote. :)

I just did not want to give the impression that I don't love the RTI remote. I think it is a very nice remote and would clearly blow the MX-500 away if it had more hard buttons, transport controls in particular. I don't know if I would spend the cash to upgrade personally, but I think I might if I had a more complex home theater.

Well said. Unfortunately I know I WOULD spend the cash. I have little discernment towards money when it comes to gadgets. Who needs food anyway? :)

Emailed RTI a few times now to ask them if they have any future plans for the T2 or a successor. No response. Too bad... :(

I hope RTI comes to CEDIA this year, it would nice to corner them in person. I will report back on what they bring or don't.

Hey thanks! Maybe we should buy them an MX500 to peek at:) If they could combine an MX500-like hard button design with the T2 firmware and software....wow!
