Okay while configuring automation for the office I grew tired of plugging and unplugging the USB programming cable to the RP-6.

While monitoring the serial commands I noticed that many times the RP-6 wasn't spitting out the codes. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to it.

After thinking about it for awhile I looked at the antenna for possible interference but it was not lighting up at all unless buttons on the remote were pressed.

Then on a whim I decided to pull out the USB cable that was just dangling there, then Wham 100% reliability.

Lesson Learned

One would think, I have worked with other control systems that do not need to be unplugged so I know this is possible...

Might have been my problem on a job about 6 months ago that I chalked up to being a RF issue.

I hate chasing my tail when it could've been avoided by a list of things to watch out for.

LOL
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

Rti is the only control system i ever used. i have a buddy that got me on the rti bandwagon who now uses urc and brags about how "he doesnt have to unplug usb to check codes".

there is nothing worse than loading one code to to check find out it doesnt work having to connect usb again to update new code and disconnecting to try again...

one would figure rti would fix that years ago

Having to use a Serial Cable is much worse...
Peace - It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

With Crestron I do not have to unhook anything from any thing and we can test away...

This is exactly what caused me to have issues with my serial commands.

The XP-8 can do the same thing.

I know the XP8 is OK if you are using the network connection, is it OK if you are loading via USB?

Yes, it works the same via Ethernet or USB.
