Well I have finally got my cm232 cable (Thanks Bill!), AND NOW THE REAL FUN BEGINS.

I am trying to control a NEC 42MP1 and just can't get it to work.

The NEC has a DB9 connector, so I have connected the CM232 to the NEC with a Null Modem Cable so that 2 and 3 cross over as pin 2 on the NEC is RXD.

The full cable is (DB9 <-> DB9)
3 <-> 2
2 <-> 3
7 <-> 8
8 <-> 7
5 <-> 5
6 <-> 4
4 <-> 6

Then I added one rs232 code to my T2 (being the example in the NEC manual).

In the manual the code is shown as
"DFH 80H 60H 47H 01H 01H 08H" which I take to mean DF Hex, 80 Hex etc.

I have entered this into the T2 as "\xDF\x80\x60\x47\x01\x01\x08" which after saving gets changed to "\d223\d128`G\d001\d001\b"

I then u/l the new config to the T2 and try the rs232 button.

The IRF-6 light flashes once VERY quickly, but the NEC does nothing.

Can anybody suggest what I may be doing wrong?

I have tried tying pins 4,6,7 & 8 together on the NEC end of the cable (trying to remember the good old days of having to make serial cables for terminals/modems etc), but still no go.

I'm going to try to get a breakout box tomorrow so I can see what lines are tied up/down on the NEC but wonder if I'm doing something wrong with the codes.... should they get converted to decimal when saved?

Further to my previous message,

I have put a breakout box on the cm232 cable, and I get no activity on pin 2 when I press a button programmed with an rs232 code.

Any suggestions?
