As are most of you, I'm excited at the prospect of the new 2-way products from RTI. Other than simple metadata (i.e.:tuner and volume feedback, track/artist/album art, lighting and HVAC), what are some of the applications for 2-way products?

My thoughts:

-Page links in a system or system mode macro
-Tracking and latching buttons on multiple devices
-Page links on an XP8 triggered event

Crestron/AMX guys- what do you do with 2-way? I listed above the things I would like to see/do with RTI, what else do YOU do?

URC/Pronto guys- what capabilities do your products have?

Sorry for the ignorant questions, but I am absolutely new to 2-way...I'm excited, but maybe not sure why!

I see this as maybe more important on the in-wall products than remotes, am I off base?

P.S.: please, no "2 weeks" jokes. getting a little old.

I am an AMX Guy and here are some of the things I do with two-way.

Easily give feedback as to what source is on in a room.
-very nice when there is multiple sources of the same thing,ie.4 cable boxes.

Many devices provide status of the product.
-volume
-lamp life
-power state
-input mode
-You can use this information to update the touch panel based off of the information you need.

I love to give the feed back for alarms and lights on touch panels. Easily see what lights are on/off and what window and doors are open.

I will also do things with automation like
-If johny disarms the alarm
-do a bunch of things
-change his touch panel to a certain page

It is neet to have things triggered by an event but if the touch panel does not know about it, the end user may forget what source is on and accidently change it. Again the several cable boxes point.

These are just a few items. With the two way world, you get to tell the customer "YES" way more offten when they ask "Can my system do that"
Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question...

A couple of my favorites are the following:

- Tell you someone is at the door on the remote without disturbing the movie via sound effect, etc.

- Since I am notorious for leaving the garage door open, a message on the TV screen or remote in my bedroom signalling the garage dor is open.

- Providing temperature information outside as well as inside and triggering certain events based on both.

- Feedback that certain systems are stil on (particularly zone 2 applications that can go silent and be completely forgotten).

Hope this helps.

A little off topic and a little not but I have been looking into trying to get myself certified as a programmer for either Crestron and/or AMX but they don't seem to make it easy now a days - seems you have to be a dealer and/or work for a dealer. Does anyone know if they make classes for programming only?

Played around with prontoscript but nothing major and do like using web-based applications for automation control on the RTI. Need more status checks though with multiple central video sources like cheese was saying, I have to create individual pages for each and flip to in macros so they know which they are on at times.

I believe anyone can sign up for a class, you just have to pony up the costs...

No offense to you specifically, but I wish sometimes they would make it harder to gain the line...

No offense taken, I appreciate the feedback - they have appeared to make it harder to become a DEALER from what I can tell. From the talk of the sales rep in my area I have to certify and purchase a new demo system with a minimum initial sale which is not always easy to do. I don't want to really become Crestron or AMX only it is just I keep coming on to projects where a system is left with some less than stellar programming that I would love to fix instead of pass on or replace.

Then again, those poor installs are the reason they probably are making it harder to get the line so they don't get a bad name for a good product.

I will see if I can find the class only and what requirements need to be met.

Thanks Again and sorry to off topic OP, didn't mean to distract.
