I am contemplating purchasing the T2 remote and solicit the opinions and experiences from current T2 owners. I had purchased a Pronto which I currently have for sale on eBay. The main reason for my dissatisfaction with the Pronto is the user interface. With a minimum number of dedicated buttons and having to use the touch panel for almost all controls I experienced a great deal of reluctance from my wife (and some on my part) in learning to use it. It didn't seem intuitive to her. However, one thing I really liked about the Pronto was that you could set it up to do both device-by-device control and what I will call activity control. For example, on the main menu you could have options such activities as 'Watch DVD', 'Listen to CD', etc. You could also have dedicated page(s) to control specific devices (such as one for you DVD, Satellite Receiver, etc.). I think the larger screen helped make handling both of these type of controls easier.

The T2 seems to overcome many of the problems I encountered with the Pronto. My question to T2 owners, is it possible to provide both activity and device control in a easy to use interface on the T2? In the near term I am not that interested in the additional features provided by the T2 (such as the RF control module)

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,

This is easily possible with the T2. I highly suggest you download the software and manuals to convince yourself on how easy the T2 is to customize. [Link: rticorp.com]

Jeff,

I not only own the T2, but I also sell them and Prontos(RC-5000i) in my capacity as saleman for a custom home electronics installation company. Most of my clients think they want the Pronto (like you did) but when they use the T2 as I have programmed it, they much prefer it, even with the higher price tag (I also charge for the programming).
The bottom line is simply that you can make the "opening page" a jumping point to anything you want. I usually suggest (for family harmony) that the basic 1st page "idiot button" turn on the system to the most frequently used source/channel/mode etc. and also turns to the corresponding control page. On mine, this means that the big button on the home page turns on the system thusly; HDTV on to accept regular DSS, receiver on to DSS input in Pro Logic, & DSS on to standard DirecTV local channel NBC. This brings the remote to the 1st of several channel macro pages. On this 1st page I have a "page link" button (jump)to a source directory page from which I can go to DVD, VCR, CD, HD etc. each with corresponding macros for input changes and page jumps to control for the appropriate device.
Tou can play around significantly with the page link/macros (jump in Prontoese)to facilitate a system operation flow that makes sense for your usage.
The T2 makes macro management and programming a breeze once you get the hang of it and after using this program you will never want to see Pronto Edit or RC-5000 Set Up again.
Good luck.
