I have just received the RTI TT T2 control package today and so far I like what I see. I also liked the quick response HomeAutomationNet gave me (thanks Bill).
My problem is that my rs232 link to my pc is unreliable. Some details:
1) Computer is Sony Vaio laptop pcg-sr7k. Bios has no settings for com ports.
2) I had no trouble finding T2 on my com4.
3) Medium and slow speeds are totally unable to communicate. Cannot even get firmware version.
4) High speed always gets firmware version.
5) In the middle of sending or receiving data I usually get an "invalid echo" error.
6) I have tried a zillion times and it varied from an error almost immediately to working. It worked twice early on but hasn't worked the last hour at all (quite frustrating).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Is there anything else trying to use a com port at the time? Like palm hot sync etc. Also, try shutting off IR monitor while running T2 software. Had a prob on my older Vaio and that helped, but unrelated to T2.

Also, you might want to see if you can find another computer to test on... could be the cable.

Thanks to you all.
I gave up on the Sony and am using a desktop PC. It is working fine now. Unfortunately my PC is at the other end of the house from the home theatre, but you can't win them all...

Laptops seem to cause a lot of problems with remote control communications. Wonder what it is. :-)

Just got a Sony Vaio PCG-FX170 notebook. Also won't communicate with the T2 from Com port 1. "Invalid echo data received". Com port setting using auto detect usually gives error message = "No compatible devices found". Recognized T2 a couple of times, but then still would not send file to remote.
Check cables ok, reloaded software, no other 3rd party software loaded, works fine on my desktop, my installer's HP laptop, my old Compaq laptop, even another Sony, one notch below this one. (I need the builtin CD-RW in the 170), works fine when I loaded Xantech's drag'n'drop.
Anyone got any ideas or knowledge about the Sony's?
Thanks

Charles,
When this sort of thing happens with ProntoEdit, sometimes you can fix by re-installing. Worth a try...
