Professional custom installer
Reprogramming older T2 Remote.
(Found out how to rebuild batteries using 4 NiMH AAA Cells.) (use Energizer AAA 1000Mah Type)
Crack Case open carefully !!!
Solder four batteries together
Insert batteries
Solder batteries to connectors. Remove center connector tab.
Glue case edges back together with hot melt glue.
Took me 12 minutes per battery.

We Need...

I'm a professional installer also. I "need" my cake and eat it too.

Maybe I've become a little jaded, but need and want don't work for me any more, especially with my young children. Isn't there a better way of asking such as "would you be so kind to..." or even "thank you"? The request above looks like a craigs list ad and I don't want to buy anything today.

More info such as have you tried looking in the Mega-list and tried similar products, attempted to do this and nothing worked and searched the forums here such as the discrete hunter forum.

Why even mess with the T2 when you can send it back and with a little money get a T2+?
Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;)

Lets see a $30.00 fix for the batteries or a $200.00 trade in fix to get what you already have.
I'll fix my batteries until my display goes dim.

So you think that the T2+ and the T2 are the same? If you think so then good for you.

Actually no problem at all.

It's great that you have a solution, however I certainly won't be doing that for my customers or myself. I can just hear the phone ringing now "my drapes caught on fire from my T2 battery charger, didn't you just fix that". For DIY'ers this is a great solution, for someone who runs a company with very high general liability insurance and overhead, I think I will sell the customer the OEM part and not worry about it. Or direct them to a Batteries Plus store and have them repair it, which shifts liability to the store.

The other issue about the IR codes, just go through the motions and tell us that you have tried the Mega List and done a search that is all. I found the codes for the Hitachi around here several years ago by searching and finding out that you can take the OEM remote and have it spit out discrete inputs.

Have a great Labor Day weekend.

cpchillin,
No the T2 and T2+ are not the "same". But from a customers point of view, the visible improvement is not worth the money. Customers refer what they are familiar with.
A T2+ is o bug improvement over a T2. Now a T2-C is a big improvement over a T2. This is something a customer would pay for.... Because they can see it.

gwilly,l
As for "drapes catching on fire", that statement is way over the top. I understand your point and as a pro installer myself I want to be productive but their is a balance between what a customer wants, cost and productivity.
Some customers just won't pay to upgrade. Sure if I can sell a new remote to a customer who has a functional T2, I would. But this is not normally the case. Especially when the T2 is only four years old and they remember the original $1000.00 - $1700.00 custom programming bill that came with it.
So I got creative, I am also an electrical engineer and checked the Charger specifications. I am not some DIY. I did my homework and the math. My fix will last and it is safe. I'll send you a picture if you like.

Got my remote almost finished.
As far as my code search goes, For not all I need are the codes for the Onkyo TX-SR575. Can you help ?

RTI has agreed to sell me three T2-C at a very reduced price which solves my t2 problem. Now I just have to learn the T2-C Programming......
Oh joy
thanks.

Okay, just tried it - thanks for the tip!.

Just one question: the AAA cells are too thick to fit the case properly - how did you get it to look/fit right on the remote?

You used the Energizer model that he cited? Batteries all have the same spec but might not all be identical in size or in the details of their shapes.

I just had problems with Energizer AAs in a client's DirecTV remote. Seems they are larger around than other batteries, so it was hard to put them in and get them out. Then, I found that the + post does not stick up as far from the overall wide part of the battery as on other brands. I had to bend down the spring on the + contact of the remote to use Energizers!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

gwilly,
what I think Elmbrook did wrong here is to take the entire population of helpful remotecentral members and camp followers, then filter out the vast majority of them so that only those interested in a T2 battery solution would look at his post, then ask for remote commands.

Elmbrook,
if you have a question about a topic, don't limit your self to the few who are interested in something else. Ask the general population by creating a new thread. And as gwilly said, please let us know what you've already checked. We're more cooperative when we are CO-operating with someone, instead of just being free consultants.

Has any of you tried contacting RTI for a replacement battery? I'm in need of 4 for the T2. I wonder if I could find them on ebay....

I fixed my T2 battery problem in a less then pretty way: I tacked a four cell AA battery holder to the back of the original battery case, removed the existing cells and wired it up. Four full size AA's (rechargeable) last about 3-4 weeks. I have not tried disposeable batteries but the would last quite a while also.
