Hello - well, thanks to all who posted in the other RS232 threads. I'm learning quite a lot from the other posts, and trying to wrap my head around it all! I have figured most of it out, and successfully have commands working in the system. Here's what I've got so far (and this system is being used as a test bed only for now).

RK1-8
RP6
CM232
Marantz BD8002 Blu-ray player

So what's the problem? POWER ON! I have powered the unit up initially with IR, and I am now able to play, stop, pause, etc. with RS232 - and power off. The big issue is, I cannot power ON with RS232... it will not respond at all, nor will it respond to Open/Close or Play when unit is in standby. The RS232 spec states that it will respond to these commands when unit is in standby. Unit is not hard-switched off, and I have tried all this after turning unit off via RS232.

String is:

02 20 00 00 00 00 00 03 32 33

Any ideas?

Hi,

I am having some problems with the RS-232 on the BD8002 as well. I do have the POWER ON command working just fine, but POWER OFF is not working. Additionally, I am getting very intermittent results with play, pause, skip, cursor commands, etc.

They work, but sometimes need 2-5 key presses on the remote and sometime no response at all.

Your string for POWER ON command is what I have.

It really seems to be problems with the unit, but with such mixed results it's tough to tell.

I'm not sure if this is your problem but I've seen some 232 devices that have string that needs to be sent to allow powering on over 232.

Not familiar with the Marantz BD player but some DVD players and TVs have an "Energy Save" mode, or something similar, that will turn off the 232 port when the device is off to save power.

Might look for that.

That is exactly right.
You need to turn OFF Power Saving in the setup menu. When it is set to ON (default) it denies RS232C from Standby.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

OH MY GIDDY AUNT.

It was that simple? Nice to know that they put that little trinket in the setup menu! What do we save... about a 1/4 of a watt?

Needless to say - problem solved. cassidy & estech - beer is on me.

Thanks!

Another tip, try just using the "Play" command instead of the "Power On". It usually will turn on the DVD player and then start playing the disc. Just a shortcut.

Just rang my receiver supplier and they told me the same thing, the Economy Mode as he referred to it must be disabled in the setup menu.
