I just upgraded my receiver to a Yamaha RX-V-1000. A big improvement for me. Now this receiver has discrete on/off codes a nice feature. Now all of my other components (TV/DSS/VCR) all have power switches, which cycle on and off when you push the power buttons. I was wondering if the T2 had the capability to sense the condition of the device, say the TV, and not turn it off if you send the power signal to it?

Are there other systems that do this?

Thanks for the help

David

David,

That’s on of the big features of the T2’s IRF-6 option. You get RF control as well as the ability to use power and video sensors to detect whether the component is on or off. Download their T2 manual and read page 42, it shows how the software handles this.

Thanks Bill. I was not sure but I suspected it. I will look at the manual to see how it works.

Do you know of any other remotes that do this?

Just looked at the manual. Looks to me as if the T2 itself is programed with the codes. How does the T2 know if the unit is on since the RF-6 is recieves the input. Does the RF-6 and T2 communicate with each other?

Sorry for all of the questions. Does this remote have the capability to know when not to send a code like, an input select on a TV?

David,

The T2 is not capable of two-way communication. What it is doing is sending logic to the IRF-6. For example as shown on page 42, the IRF-6 has 6 check boxes for IR outputs and then three check boxes for the logic. By putting a check in one of the IR output boxes and then selecting one of the three logic options you are telling the IRF-6 two things. The first is there is a sensor at that IR output port and secondly to send or not send the IR signal through the port based on if the sensor detects if the component is on or off. It works quite simply and reliably.

David,

I have the RF6 w/the sensors if you need them - brand new in the box - never used. I have a thread posted where I am asking $300, but make me an offer if you need them.

I was looking for a very small remote control. like the size of a car alarm sender from the key ring. But have both transmitter and reciever that small or smaller. Do you know where I can obtain these products.

Stay tuned...

In RTi's next download you will be able to download Discreet IR codes for Yamaha's new receivers; RX-V1, RX-V3000, RX-V1000 and RX-V800 as well as Discreet codes for their DVD-C996.

These codes are available in a hidden menu within the stock remotes
