Just got my T2 this morning (from BillE at homeautomationnet.com - great service, Bill) and now waiting the obligatory 12 hours to charge the first battery.

Any other users in the UK willing to help me? Anyone have codes or setups for Sky Digiboxes or Thomson TiVos?

Just how manyusers are there in the UK?

Regards

Norman

Hi, yes I also bought mine from Bill at homeautomationnet. I have a config. file covering Sky Digibox, Panasonic TX32 TV, SCHT80 DVD, and VCR. I can email this to you if you want.

I ended up learning most of the codes but thanks for the offer. I don't suppose you have a bitmap file of Sky Digital channels? Only a very few are covered by file on the CD.

Can you import bitmaps on the T2? If yes then the there a big bunch of them on this site (they are made for the Pronto, but with a bit of tweaking... [Link: remotecentral.com])

Hi,

How good is it for use in the UK - no problems with frequencies or anything? Also, how did you get round the US charger issue? Intrested, but want info before departing with a large sum of dosh.

I use mine in Sweden.

I am still struggling with the RF part (OK, I have not tried that hard, will have to spend some more time with placement and maybe an rf amplifier).

110V is not a problem, I am used to having 220-110V adapters for stuff like imported games consoles, laserdisc players etc. I use a 220-110V converter for the charger and a universal 220V "wall-wart" for the rf-6.

I checked on the radio "license" tables, the frequencies the theatertouch use is allocated for some weird stuff that should not interfere with the weak transmitter in the remote.

Just ordered mine, hope I won't get bored of programming the thing, but it does look cute. Besides the one remote will keep the Mrs happy. Have looked up the current files, but none of my system is on there (Samsung TV, Pioneer DVD, Receiver, MD player, etc...)

How long does it take to program a typical remote?

Andy,

Normally you can have a program in a few hours. Most people then live with it a couple of days and then tweak it. The big difference between RTI and Pronto is after one or two quick program modifications tweaking ends. You can download the RTI software on this site or at www.rticorp.com and get started with your program screens while you wait for your T2.

Bill hit it right on the head. I spent over a year tweaking my Pronto and still come across new configurations that would make me want to tweak my configuration if I were not using the T2. I tweaked the T2 a few times the first day I got it, but I have not felt the need to mess with it much since then.

So many of the original remote's button's fit so well on the T2's hard buttons that you don't have to make tons of choices about the remaining buttons. It does not take long for you to find the "optimal" configuration based on your personal preferances.

With the Pronto I never felt like I had the "perfect" configuration and that if I spent just a little more time with it I could end up with something even better. And then the design revolution happened and suddenly there were all these nifty graphics/UI upgrades out there as samples. It seemed like I was forever getting set up to use the next best thing. It was fun though and the combo's seem limitless...well other than memory constraints on graphics. :)

The T2 has many options, but the hard button's tend to make most of the choices easy so you don't end up second guessing your decisions. :) I love the T2 and am so glad I picked one up.

Good luck with it, Andy. I didn't buy the RF myself and the IR is not a prob in the UK. Even RF is probably alright, it's just not the approved frequency for here. I already had a transformer which I am using. I did try to get an AC/DC adapter but the one I saw had the wrong connecter.

A BIG WARNING! Do remember to remove the tape covering the terminals before the first charge - otherwise 12 hours later you will find nothing has happened. I was lucky - I had only had mine on its first charge for about an hour before Bill reminded me. Unfortunately, the LED doesn't recognise when it is not making proper contact.

Thanks for all the support. Unfortunately having fun with the good ol' postal service - it's gone missing. Oh well, hopefully it will turn up before easter. I appreciate the help and look forward to reducing my remotes from 6 or so down to one.

Has anyone tried encoding jog dials - got one on the pioneer DVD player.

Andy,
What I did was buy a mains adaptor from Argos, instead of using the US 110V one. Works great - catolog no 982/6838 for £9.99.

One more thing for anyone else in the UK wanting to buy a T2. Back in November last year Dave Palmer at RTI emailed me to say that:

"We are, however, working on making the TheaterTouch available internationally. My best guess for the TheaterTouch's availability in the UK would be second quarter (April-June) of 2001."

So you may want to email RTI now to see if a UK release is imminent.

I talked to Dave before his departure from RTI and the only international market that was being perused was Canada. If this by extension gives the T2 UK approval, that would be great. I was in talks about other markets with RTI but now Dave's gone so this is up in the air. Have not had any problems so far with international shipments as long as it is understood that these are being used without any official governmental approval.
