If its an emergency, there's a work around for sending RS232 commands via IR. Contact Celadon, they make an IR to RS232 interface. It is not user programmable however, you will need to send them the strings and they will write them to an eprom.

The story I got was the first production batch was not made correctly and RTI had to get in the back of a very long line again. I don't think RTI ever intended to get a vaporware reputation, it was just some bad luck. So there remains approximately a half dozen prototypes in the country and RTI isn’t offering any up, I tried.
