OK, so here's the deal.

I have a rather large project with among other things a T4, Escient FP1, and Escient Fireball.

When you select FP1 or Fireball, the remote takes you to a page with an IE object, pointing at [Link: ipod], or [Link: fireball].

It works, but is usually quite slow in actually getting the webpage, and sometimes I get "page can not be displayed" and you have to go back home and start over to get the page to refresh. Thsi is really frustrating the client.

Since RTI does not have a way for us to tell the wireless card to stay active longer, has no 2 way yet, has no real anamation, and has no way for the page to automatically refresh, (comeon RTI, get it together) I need a workaround.

I thought I would add several page jumps to multiple pages with that same IE object, with a "please wait" textbox over the IE object, to give it time to actually aquire the IE object, but that's not really working. I think everytime the page jumps, it treats the IE object as a new request.

What I think I really need is a way to do a page jumps, while at the same time, have the T4 try and get the IE page up in the background, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Anyone else whave this problem, and a possible solution?

TIA!

I don't know if this makes a difference, but do you use static IPs with each of the Escients?

The T4 is notoriously slow with web pages, so I usually include a Refresh button on any web based screens, and instruct the user to utilize it.

There's no way to load a web page in the background, as anytime you PageLink to it, it reloads.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I also found that the network card isn't that great at picking up a signal and the fact that it's wireless "B" and not G or N doesn't help either. Maybe your having problems because the T4 loses signal. I try to put a WAP in the actual room that the T4 is going to be used.
When you get "page can't load" is the green network light lit on the T4?

there was a VERY detailed thread on this exact topic. cant remember if it was here or on ip, but i recall the escient only being able to handle a certain number of requests (18 i think) per some amount of time. So if your macro is initiating, say 5 requests, you could quickly be causing the problem yourself.

Hi Guys,

The Macro that is in there, as far as the Escient is concerned, is power on, and a page jump to the page with the IE object.

Green wireless light is lit

If anyone has a link to that thread, i'd appreciate it. I'll do a search.

I just hooked up my first T-4 to fireball and I've also found the lag to be a show stopper.

While looking at the RTI site, on the escient_fireball_control_object.pdf , I read this:

T4 - Must have WiFi connection setup or when combined with the EM-4 expansion module , which features a hard-wired Ethernet
input (scheduled for release 1st Quarter 2008).

I could not find the EM-4 on RTI's product page but I found a press release dated 9/14/06 saying it was to be released 1Q '07:

[Link: rticorp.com]

Of course the site also says 1Q '08 which we have passed, so if any one from RTI is reading this, can we get some updated infromation as to when this will be released? If you say thats its going to be released next week, I'll name my first son after you*

Just a thought.

If you are addressing the units from the RTI with the names of the devices these are doing a WINS lookup which could be rather slow. Use the IP addresses of the Escients in your URLs to avoid the overhead of the WINS lookup.

I had similar issues and posted a thread last summer. Check it out if you get a chance.

Good idea but that was the first thing I did. I think I only searched back 6 months so I'll look further back for your post.

I spoke to RTI and the EM-4 expansion module will not be coming out. Apparently it did not work up to specs and they are scraping the whole idea. I'm going to try using different routers and see if a better router will improve the results.
