Anyone here control the Escient DVDM-100 with RS-232? I tried to use the CM-232 adapter with the codes in the RTI RS-232 library but had no luck. What do you guys use for the adapter that is needed to convert the DB9 to the female needed for Escient? Just want to see if anyone has had luck with this and if there is anything special that is needed that I missed..

Thanks
Jim

Did you assign COM 1 or 2 to third party control? The option can be found in the Escient setup menu.

Is there a gender adapter required? I looked at mine and saw that the CM-232 and port on the escient are both male..

Having no luck getting it to work. I assinged the COM port to #4, and had expected the IR in not to work, but it still did and no RS-232 control. To answer vbova's question, I used a regular female DB9 Female to DB9 Female to handle the dual male connection of the Escient and CM-232.

The first page in from the cover of the Escient external control protocol document shows it needs a null adaptor(3 to 2 and 2 to 3).

I wouldn't say this is true for all devices but most that have a male db9 port generally transmit on 3 and receive on 2. This requires the use of the null. It's best just to always check the protocol documentation.

You can use just an adaptor like this and still need your female to female coupler.

Or you can make your own out these and some cat5 and not need the coupler.

The end result is to reverse pins 2 and 3 on one end.

I use these, when I need a null modem:

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
