I have a T4 and RP-6 and I am attempting to control a Homeworks Series 4 processor. I can't seem to get it to respond through the CM-232 connection. I have setup a phantom keypad in HWI and am using the RS-232 strings out of Mega RS-232. It works with a Crestron AV2 currently so I think that the Homeworks serial port is set up right. Any ideas? Is Mega right?

Thanks in advance.

I had one of these several months back so I dont remember the specifics, but try these.

1.Null modem
2.Carrage return
3.Here is an example of a working code on my file

DBDT,[02:08:01:01],1\r

Not sure if any of this helped or not but I tried.
Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question...

If you have a Crestron processor in the system, why not connect the RP-6 comm port directly to the AV2 and have the AV2 control Lutron. That way, you can write your own serial strings that make more sense (e.g., theateron$, theaterscene1$, theaterdim$, etc.) A little more typing up front since you have to write the strings in RTI and Crestron, but a lot less confusion later.

I am not a Crestron programmer so it would not be that easy. I have the AV2 connected to a Kramer VP14 for serial port combining. It works well.

OK, assuming your strings are correct, here's what you need to do first:

HWI:
Programming screen>interfaces tab>Serial Equipment>Add>

Name your new serial device (RTI or something like that), match baud, Data Parity and stop bits to whatever you have it set up on the HW processor
9600,8,none,1,none is default.

uncheck the top 5 boxes, check the bottom three

Upload new config to the HW processor and cycle power .

If your RS232 strings are correct, that should work. If it does not, post back and i'll help you with the strings.

Does "L232>" have to be in front of the string? My current string looks like this "KBP ,[01:06:23],1\r". The HW processor is connected to the Crestron AV2 via Link 7. This works. Thefish, does link 7 have to be configured if it is just listening to RS-232? It is currently not and the Crestron AV2 controls it. Also which driver? Generic?

"L232" is just the command prompt from the procesor, don't put it in your string.

Your string looks OK, make sure there's no space between KBP and the comma.

RS323 on a HW processor is usually link 3.

One thing I forgot to mention is that after you create the driver (generic is OK), you need to address it in serial addressing, then upload to the HW processor.

Set up your serial driver as instructed above, check your keypad button address by going into the programming screen and looking atthe address of the button you want, upload, and you should be in business.

Remember, depending on what you want to do in homeworks, sometimes you need a KBR command after the KBP.

There is a drapery controller attached to link 3 so it is unavailable. Is it okay to use link 7?

Yes, but you have to set it up in the HW software

I tried Link 7 but it is connected to the Crestron AV2 and is set for 115K, 8,N,1 with hardware handshaking. It seems that the R2D7 from www.elec-solutions.com and the CM-232 connected to the VP14 from Kramer Electronics (same as the Xantech XOV14) don't play nice together. I can get 1 string spit out and the Lutron processor responds but subsequent commands don't work until I disconnect the R2D7 (it is being used to control AC motors on the shades).

Thanks for the info.... So we do not need the Null modem adapter or do we? I am trying to hook up with an RP 6 via the CM-232. I tried earlier today, before your information and I saw all the keypads flashing and the Signal In and Out on the RP-6 was flashing.. But I did not have a NULL modem adapter on it.

Since I am already bothering you. The raise and lower buttons for a master sceen, how would you suggest to do that? Let's say I am using 5BRL keypads around the house, would you first use the command to access the 1-5 button and then send the raise or lower on a seperate button, ie. Button Chandelier, and then just below it a button to raise the lights and another button to lower the lights?

Thanks for your help
