what the heck?
Sharp LCD volume RS232 library only gives me the choice of discrete volume levels 0-60: same thing in the manual
How do I ramp volume up and down?
I am RS232 controlling from XP8 but cant figure volume up/down!!
LC46SE94 new model (nice!!)
Thanks in advance and Happy Holiday
Mark

There is not way to do what you want reliably, unless that you have a two way communication and query for the current volume value. Very smart Sharp!

I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

You have a top-of-the-line 46" LCD and want to use the TV's speakers? Why not a receiver and speakers?

I don't use the TV speakers but do use the adjustable volume output from the display audio outs: this is a secondary display in a room with a Fujitsu P63 plasma and a 5.1 system including an MC-12 and JM Labs speakers
btw: the LC46SE94 is a beautiful display: and no banding! I love this thing

Well, you can do something that will kind of work. Since you won't know where the volume is at any given time, the first command sent after power on should set the volume to a level you're comfortable with. From there you make the vol up command be the next level up and the vol down command be the next level down. If either of these buttons is pressed you then do a page flip to another page that's exactly the same except it has the next level up for volume up (if volume up was pressed) and the previous level for volume down.
Another way would be to build a gigantic macro, with a flag for each possible volume level. Whatever flag is active, would dictate the results of a volume up/down push, then you would set a new flag for the level you're sending. I don't like this method because the macro will get so big as to be almost impossible to decipher when you're building it.

Thanks for the suggestions:
seems the easiest thing to do is to stay with IR control which works just fine

Mark, I had a similar situation, because the 232 lets you call on preset volume commands, I made the customer a cheesy volume side bar that had basically Low, Med & High, which were respectively 15, 30 & 45... That was only a temporary volume issue since this was only for late night veiwing when his wife/kids were sleeping!
Good Luck, & IR would be fine! Joey

Hi Mark, I realize this is years old but in hopes it could help others here goes. In the manual for the Sharp LC-52LE640U and similar models, there is a listing for Remote Control Buttons that shows RS-232 commands for all the functions of the remote; basically RCKYxx (RCKY32 = Vol-, RCKY33 = Vol+).
It should be noted that in these models, the RS-232 isn't enabled by default, it's poorly documented but you have to first send RSPW1 to enable serial control, I believe you first need to manually turn on the TV.
