I am in the market for a new remote control, keep in mind that this would be my first proffessional remote. The only remote I have considered so far is the Pronto TSU9600 mainly because of the Escient music server integration and look of the remote. I will also be controlling a multiroom audio system (more than likely Nuvo GC) and a Denon Reciever, all having RS-232. I am wanting to make sure the remote can work with Casatools given there recent news for supporting Nuvo. Can the RTI work with these products? Any words of wisdom from an experienced RTI pro would be much appreciated. Thanks

You cant compare a Pronto to a RTI remote, unless your looking at an M2 or T1. The RTI is much more intuative for the end user and requires half the time to program. I have sold and programed over 50 RTI remotes in the last 16 months- only had an issue with the battery life on the M2- I would pass on selling an M2 and sell the T1 instead. I also offer a programming service if needed.
Good Luck-
Thanks-
David

I'm not knocking the TSU 9600/9400 series, but RTI is way more powerful in programming which translates to the customer requests like "I want to be able to do..." or "I wish I could do this and that".

I think from a graphical standpoint the 9600 might have a slight edge over any RTI remote currently, but the new T3-V coming out this year will be just as good. yes, agreeably the feedback from Escient can be a positive as well for Pronto, but I don't think it works very well. Besides, I like to be able to utilize custom graphics. I can control Escient with a K3/K4 keypad using wireless - but its not better.

To sum, why do I feel like the Pronto (all Prontos) are made for people with tiny fingers and really good eyes?

I am looking for a full touchscreen and the ability to control an Escient music server, Nuvo GC, and casatools. Can the RTI T3-V or T4 do this?

I have done it with T4's no problem if you are looking for a hand held remote. the t3-v is not out yet.

How does the T4 communicate with the Nuvo, through RS-232? I thought RTI did not offer two way commincation right now?

Give each company a call, see if you can reach technical support from one or the other.

My experience was that Philips customer support is here, and here alone. I love this site, but when help is needed this should not be the standard for support...

I am not sure I would agree with all of the previous comments.

I really like the RTI systems in general. Great products and great engineering.

I also agree with Roddy's comment about support.

However, you will not get to mess around or program the RTI product:

1) End users do not get the software, Are you a dealer or and end-user?
2) You cannot learn any codes into their products without the dealer-only learning device.
3) You can only buy from an RTI dealer and they are typically uninterested unless they are programming and installing.

So, not quite sure what your interests are.

The RTI stuff will soon be two-way (we believe). RTI has slipped a lot of dates on getting products out.

The TSU9600 does most things RTI does today, maybe not as elegantly. I would say the RTI programming is about 30% easier but by far it is no miracle software if you do not have files you have used before. Creating new is no picnic in the RTI systems. It works nicely but far from automatic programming.

They both have RS-232 with their extender products, including video sync sensing and power sensing. RTI has the best RF system but the pronto now uses wi-fi which appears to be pretty stable. Probably not as good as RTI RF, though.

RTI is priced sort of high, in comparison but their engineering is through the product line so it usually pays.

So, I guess the key question is are you a reseller or an end-user?

I am an end user and considering that I'm installing everything on my own means I will more than likely go with Pronto. I guess the major selling point for me is the Escient Music Server interface. It also looks cheaper to buy the TSU9600 on my own rather than purchasing the T4 through a dealer.

Well a T4 lists for $2500 plus the processor, so yeah, the Pronto wil be cheaper.
