I just got a new MacBook (tired of PCs)
Is anyone here programming their RTI products with a Mac? How is it working?
What are you using Parallels? Boot Camp? Fusion?
A question I have is before doing a Windows area on my MAC for RTI, do I need XP WITH SP2 (Service Pack 2)??

Yes, there are several people using Mac to program RTI, using one of the following: Parallels, Boot Camp or Fusion.
Do a forum search in the RTI Theater Touch and Custom Installers' Lounge

Is it true Service Pack2 is required? I have an old Windows XP install disc but it does not contain SP2? I read that SP2 may be reuired but I can't seem to confirm this..
Thanks!

Jeff, Fusion can run ANY operating system as a virtual machine. I have fusion running RTI software and it works perfectly. If you want to have Bootcamp you MUST use XP with SP2 and the disk you use to install it must be a SP2 disk.
You can get an OEM version online for 100-150 bucks. Locally you can get one for maybe $175. There is a place at Schoolcraft and Middlebelt in Livonia that sell it for that. (OEM version means you must buy some hardware at the same time, so buy a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard)

I use BootCamp on my Macbook and it works fine through Leopard. It is true that you need SP2 to install through BootCamp so you may just want to consider going to Vista for $100 or less.

From RTI's website:
Please note: ...Apple computers running a Windows emulator such as Parallels will not be able to download system files to non-Windows CE devices (T1, T2+, M2, U1, RP1, RP6).
Is this true? Has anyone been able to download from Parallels to any of these devices?

Ed, you should try adding either VMWare Fusion or Parallels. YOu gain the ability to use your WIndows apps and OSX apps side by side with out rebooting in between. You lose nothing. If something doesn't work under the virtual machine, you can always just reboot into XP using Bootcamp.
Ok you do lose something. The 80 bucks to buy the software and a little harddrive space for it. But thats it. There is no performance hit. Give it a try, you won't be sorry.

That is wierd, I wonder why RTI says on their website that you can't use and emulator?
this is from the RTI system requirements: "Integration Designer 6.0 will not run on Windows 95/98/ME and x64 bit versions of Windows. Also, Apple computers running a Windows emulator such as Parallels will not be able to download system files to non-Windows CE devices (T1, T2+, M2, U1, RP1, RP6)."
I was contemplating using an emulator but when I read the above, it led me away from emulators.
I just bought my Macbook Pro and I am using bootcamp to run Windows XP Pro. ID6.01 runs very fast. A Mac, the fastest PC running Windows. I love it!

I think they say that so they can eliminate a bunch of potential tech support issues. If they disclaim it, and we call in and say we are running under Fusion, they can just say it isn't supported and move on. It may also be that it doesn't aways work, and Fusion and Parallels are kind of beta software anyway.
Either way, it works for me so far. If it stops, I'll just reboot into Bootcamp and be fine.
RTI4 CustomHomes, you can add Fusion or Parallels now and use your bootcamp partition. The only you lose is the 80 bucks or so for the software, then you have the best of both worlds. There is nothng cooler than working in OSX apps and then just flipping t another spaces window and working in ID6 or any other Windows app.

rlustig,
Thats cool, I will have to give that try. Have you compared the speed on running ID6 with both options, Bootcamp Vs. Fusion? Before I got my new Macbook pro, I was using a Powerbook G4 with Windows Virtual PC 7. This was painfully slow! I think it took about 7 years off of my life. If Fusion can run as fast as bootcamp, I would love to be able to uses spaces with OS X.
