Only been doing RTI for a couple of months, so forgive the newbiness. The area HAI rep has been trying to get me to start installing HAI. I hate the GUI. Anyone ever try and get these two to play together? Any point in trying?

I am getting ready to do just that. I am going to use the HAI touchpanels on this job but all of the future one I beleive that I am goin to use the Rti inwalls and just send over the Rs232 strings to control the HAI. A little extra work but worht it for upper mid range systems. I think Hai is a great product. Very easy to understand and program. I have only done a few so hopefully I did not just stick my foot in my mouth.
Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question...

Just a friendly time saver tip, instead of dealing with HAI encryption and login in BS, creat a message with a simple string like "ARM" and "DISARM" then create a HAI program that arms /disarms when it recieves that message on the com port. then in RTI create a series of page flips to simulate a pass code. so if the user code was "5832"
on the first page only the 5 key page flips you to the correct next page, then on that page only the 8 key takes you to the correct page, so on and so on, any other key flips you to a dummy page. On the final page it gives you the ar/ disarm buttons with a the proper message as the 232 string.

i hope it makes sense, of course its one way only but i found it difficult to keep even AMX logged in properly and the way i fixed it would be impossible in RTI even with 2 way.

I have done this before too. even in my own house. I use rti to control my lighting heat security and run macros. we also try to get people to integrate it on every job. Most people like the idea of a remote controlling that rooms light and hvac zone.

If anyone needs it i can send them a file with some hai control on it. just email me a request.

thanks for the responses and feedback. I'm glad to know that this will work. My biggest hangup with HAI has always been the sad looking interface.

That would be very easy to crack. You would do better with flags so that you wouldn't be able to figure out each number along the way, only if you had the correct code at the end or not.

I did basically what he said and there is no way to distinguish a correct or incorrect code until fully entered. make the first page say enter code. when you press a button right it flips you to the next page in the sequence of correct keys. if it is a wrong button it flips you to a page of incorrect keys, but both look identical. once the code if fully entered if it was all right it does the command if not it says wrong code. Hope i explained that well. but you can see it in the file.

I will send more emails when i get to the pc with the file on it tonight.
