Although the 2-way capability of the "not yet released" XP-8 will not happen for a long while, I'm surprised RTI hasn't announced any new 2-way remotes other than the future T3-V. Is the T2-C going to be upgraded to 2-way?

If so, I'm surprised I haven't seen any announcements of this yet. Or are most folks planning to use the 2-way with in-wall controls and the T4 mostly?

Just curious.

There is a new remote T2-Cs which is supposed to work on the Zigbee network and have two way communication.

According to RTI, there will be 2 versions of all new remotes, an RM433 version, and a zigbee version. So when you order a T2C, you will have to specify which one you want. Same for T3V, etc. No word on the older remotes. I suspect they would limit the zigbee tranciever to the color remotes.

Seriously though, the more we all talk about this stuff the longer it is taking. Like the watched pot that never boils. I say we all ignore RTI and avoid posting about the XP8 or zigbee and maybe they will surprise us.

Funny, the description on the RTI site about the T2-Cs doesn't mention Zigbee at all.

You are correct. It does not say anything about that at all. I was going by what RTI and My rep told me.

Also any old one way t2c and t3 remotes will be able to be sent out and traded up to the new 2way versions for a fee. They didnt say how much but it will be an option, kind of like what they did with the t2 to t2+

I didn't hear about the T3s being able to be upgraded, but at the last training Mike Everett said the T2-C's are going to be able to be upgraded. The T2-Cs will not have 2 way. As far as I know the complete 2-way list goes as follows.

T2-C (with upgrade for a fee)
New T2-C
T4 (with upgrade for a fee)
New T4
T3-v

Not sure about the in-wall units, but I'm assuming the RK3 and K4 are going to be the same basic deal as the T2-C and T4 with the upgrades.

As far as zigbee goes I think that is just going to be the new processors' and remotes' way of communication. As of the last training I had Mike Everett said there was no plans for direct communication with other zigbee devices. Now whether or not there will be different versions of the remotes to go with an RP-1 with 433mhz or an XP8 with zigbee, I'm not sure.

Im also assuming the rk1 keypads will have some form of 2way b/c the have the 485 screw terminals. They probably did it with the intention of being able to change backlight colors based on macros ran from other remotes.

At a training back in April or so, I was told that all of the in-wall units would be 2-way capable with a firmware upgrade. They also said that the 433 products would not go away, and that there would be two versions of all 2-way remotes (433 and zigbee). They were also tenuous about the upgrading of existing remotes, something they were very confident about before. I am through believing all the hype until I see these things working. We have all had a lot of patience with RTI, but mine is wearing thin. They have continually downgraded expectations over the course of this product rollout. This is starting to remind me of all the BS Netstreams promised and failed to deliver when their products were on the horizon.

The firmware upgrade for inwalls makes sense, its hardwired. The handhelds will need to be able to receive Zigbee.

I would not count on any current handheld being capable of 2way.
