there is not mention or diagram saying that you can just
hookup the power adapter to the connection block and then
run wire to the RP1 terminals for power.

There may be no mention of it in the manual but I was told, VERY specifically, that you could do the power either way.

I haven't had any issues yet, and I've got a few RP1s out there hooked up this way. I'm starting to get a bit fed up with this crap... I've been one of RTIs biggest supporters/defenders over the years, but it's wearing thin.

I would imagine that they assumed that it could be done either way. In theory there is no reason why it can't. I'm guessing that over time they have realized that there are issues. Especially since tech support is now saying not to hook it up this way and there have been reported problems.

Could also be a bad batch of IR connection blocks as well. Maybe older ones work just fine, who knows.

This was my first (and so far only) install of a T2C that I did 2-3 months back. I use the voltage sensing, for the cable box, and 6 total emmitters. All are xantech and some are doubles. Don't know if there is any thread of commonality to cause the problem.

I do know the customer had a breaker pop that is connected to all of the equip once but don't know if anything there had caused the issue.

Also, the way this went down was it was working fine one day and then pretty much non responsive the next, or a command or two was processed and thats it and then pretty much no response with the button presses. If this happens to you, At least you won't rip your hair out for an hr trying to figure out. I would just make sure from now on that you wire the power direct to avoid any future problems.
