I'm just getting started (at a new company) with AMX and
Crestron.

Assuming a fully developed (ie 2 way RS232) XP8 was available
now.... could it do ANYTHING that a AMX or CRESTRON processor
in similar price range can't do?

We also use RTI

Just wondering if there will ever be a good time to spec
the XP8 instead of an AMX/Cres.
?

Remember AMX and Crestron have been doing what RTI has stumbled onto for many many years now. At +- $1500 for the processor to it is an easy Crestron thing (don't use AMX). Plus the fact that you can use an RTI remote in a Crestron environment in the bigger scheme of things.

If you don't have access to the big 2, you have a whole different perspective...

And if you are thinking of comparing the 2 pick up a catalog from each manufacturer.

People often forget that the folks that created RTI, originaly crafted crestrons software as well as Sonances stuff. Not that it matters but it is interesting to consider where the company is ultimately heading

But Crestron just sells itself. Customers pay more for Crestron b/c it's Crestron even if the RTI can do everything it can, and even i you think some of the RTI remotes look nicer.

RTI has been growing a lot and hopefully is the next Crestron or AMX.... Thats a far way away though.

I forgot one of the coolest features of intergration designer is that you can email an executable program to the client so they can give their remote a test drive similar to the preview mode.

The front panel has a USB port for programming. The back panel has two USB ports for future expansion, memory, or communication. They will be for future use.

And you can download via ethernet. We also suggested that they make the Remotes downloadable through the xp8 via the 2way serial. This way you wouldnt have to walk around the house every time you want to change a favorite on the 8 remotes in the house.

The download to the remote from the XP8 would be nice but it would take a while for it to download at those speeds. Have you ever tried to transfer a 3MB file between two computers using serial at 384 I could probably drive around the lovely state of RI by the time it is down.

Looks like RTI updated their web site to show "Available 2008" for most new products, including the XP-8. They got rid of the Q1 status that was displayed for most items.

Hmm.

Oh my...
