So there is a voltage, lighting, RF whatever sensor available. If I buy the IR only version of the RTI - Price better btw - then how will these sensors talk back to the remote? Or will they just not work and I'll need the RF upgrade or a full RF version?

The sensors only work with the IRF-6 RF system interface. So, if you want to use them, you'd need to buy the remote, RF station and modules.
