We just started doing RTI, Added it to years of doing URC, Pronto's etc..
I have a question regarding the RS232 ports on the RP6. Is there a way to share those ports? The reason i ask is i have 13 pieces of equipment i would really like to control via RS232 and if i have 2 RP6's that's only 12 ports. So if i can share one or two i don't have to add a 3rd RP6. Maybe the 3rd RP6 wouldn't be a bad idea but just thought i'd throw it out there.

Not that I have heard of.

You do not need any ports for IR, routing or sense?

I would think 3 RP6 units would be the best way to go especially considering that there can only be one process at a time per RP6.

I may need i IR port but more then likely it will be RS232, at least thats what i'm hoping for. I'll plan on the 3rd RP6. Worst case i'll have an extra one to put into the next job. Thanks

Would a device like this be helpful? It's basically a rs232 switch/router......

Probably complicate things more than help, but I looked at this device once for a similar issue ....never implemented it, but thought I would throw it out there....

You could probably google rs232 switch and rs232 router for others....

Can I ask what you're integrating that has 13 pieces of equipment that all need 232?

Just curious.

I hate to keep beating a dead horse but... the XP8 might fit your needs a little better. If we ever see one.

Just for interest's sake, it would probably cost effective to have 1 RP6 and a computer if you really need 13 RS232 control setups. With a USB HUB and a couple of USB to RS232 adapters, you could send a RS232 command from the RP6 to the computer, and have the computer do everything else...basically with a device ID as part of the command. Perhaps not practical, but it was just a thought.

Andy, it's a conference center for a business here in town. It's one big room that can also be split up into quarters for seperate training rooms. There are 4 Projection design Action 3's, 4 plasmas, B&K CT600, B&K HD6, 4 LG BH200's and a presentation camera. They are also getting some equipment to be able to webcast to their other offices so i'm not sure if that will need to be controlled or not?
I managed to get it all up and working on Friday with the exception of one projector but that was just the fault of a bad 150' HDMI cable (Have i mentioned how much i hate HDMI) We'll get that fixed on Monday though.

I've never tried it, but you should be able to just split the ports as long as you don't have overlapping commands. Otherwise, you'll need a serial router.

I'd also be interested in a splitter link
