From what I can tell, Verizon is using the same Motorola boxes that most of our Comcast area uses.

I'm going out to a customers on Monday morning to integrate one for the first time.

If the codes are different, I'm planning on learning them (IRPro).

Anybody else done any new Fios equipment? Codes the same? Any tips? Heads up?

I recently switched from Comcast to Verizon Fios. Went from the Motorola DCT6412 to the DCT6416, both dual-tuner HD DVR's. The IR codes are the same though there are a few new codes, those being the "D", "Options", and "Widgets" buttons. I had no problem learning these codes from the DCT6416 remote. Additionally, the remote for the DCT6416 that I received does not offer a page up and page down function. The page up and page down functions are supported with respects to the Verizon Fios Interactive Media Guide (IMG) however. The page up and page down codes I had for the DCT6412 worked fine in this regard. Also, the skip forward function is officially supported for the DCT6416. In fact, under the "Settings\DVR\Skip" menu you have your choice of skipping forward 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 Minute, or 5 minutes. In turn there is a "Settings\DVR\Replay" menu for setting the interval for skipping backwards. Again, the intervals 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, and 5 minutes are available. I believe there is a skip forward button on the remote that came with the DCT6416. This is the same code I had already created as a "30 second skip" for the DCT6412 though. Now In my case I'm working with Pronto remotes, not RTI. In case you might find my codeset for the DCT6416 useful at some point it can be downloaded here.

Additional item worth mentioning...
The custom guides do not wrap. Once you reach the top channel or bottom channel in a given custom guide you have to start going back the other way. Just mentioning this because I only use the "HD Channel" custom guide. When bringing up this custom guide for the first time I thought the page up did not work. Pressing page up would not take me up a page within the guide. Well this was because custom guides do not wrap. I did not realize this at the time. When entering a given custom guide the first channel in the guide appears at the top of the screen with the channel in the middle of the screen always being the one which is highlighted. Since custom guides do not wrap this results in the page up not working from this position as there is not another page available above the first channel in the guide. It was not until I used the cursor up function to reach the first channel in the guide that I saw said guide does not wrap. A real bummer! The same of course applies when on the last page of a custom guide. Once on the last page of the guide, the channel in the center of the screen always being the one highlighted you must cursor down one spot at a time to reach the last channel in the guide. The fact that custom guides do not wrap really sucks. Prior to this I've never encountered a DVR where all guides did not wrap. I consider this a bug and have reported it as such to Verizon Fios TV Technical Support.

CH + and - are page up and down in guide mode. There a few codes that do not match up. If you send me an email, I can snip out my Fios box from my cml.

Ohh and don't forget that fun fact: how they disable the access to the Motorola menu once Fios updates to the new GUI.

Could you expand upon this? What do you mean by "Motorola menu" exactly? I've yet to hear or read anything about the next big GUI update.

Motorola has a built in menu to allow you to set the screen size, scan frequency and how the box outputs a 480i/SD signal.

You enter this by pressing menu with the power off.

Once Fios updates the firmware on the box to have the new GUI they rolled out back in SEPT. It locks out the Motorola menu. So if You have not set the 480i output to stretch or 480i before the update...

YOU ARE NOW STUCK WITH A 4:3 IMAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR QUICKLY BURNING IN PLASMA.

Fios knows about this and said they would do something about it but that was months ago.

OK, that menu. Gotcha. I actually have a button called "Settings" on the keypad page of my various Pronto configuration files. Said button powers off the Motorola box, then sends the Menu function for accessing this menu. The button at that point reads, "Exit" and is programmed to send the Menu function, then powering back on the unit. In any event, I just tried accessing this menu on my DCT6416 and whaddaya know ... I can no longer access the menu! Dang. You know when I first switched over to Verizon Fios and the 6416 box I was able to access this menu. Was able to access the menu for some time actually. I also started out with the updated GUI though obviously I must have received a minor update since then as I can no longer access the menu. Well at least I had the opportunity to adjust those menu settings already.

I just did my first RTi install (just a T2C and RP-1) on a new Verizon Fios HD DVR box. It took me a few tries, but found that, since Verizon also uses boxes from Motorola, (hence why my customer had to wait over a month to get their HD/DVR box after making the switch from Comcast) ... some of the codes within ID work. I used mostly the one named "Motorola / Cable Box / New Remote" for my commands, but then ended up having to find some DVR features from either Motorola "HDTV-DVR" or "Dual Tuner HD DVR".

Good Luck!

Also, the box allows you to do "power on numeric" just like the Scientific Atlanta boxes, so there are discrete on and offs.

There is a good file to use in the mega - begins or contains QIP.

Did a few of these recently and was fine.
