Has anybody tried to use the ReQuest Flash interface for it's multi-zone media servers? I talked to RTI about it and they said that it works great and that in fact they'd heard of several installers who had used it successfully. So, I drank the cool-aid, then stupidly told a customer that the remote would do it without testing it first. I put it in the clients house and it was a total disaster! The flash interface DID work but it was so slow I couldn't imagine anyone could use it with regularity. It took 45 seconds to load the actual GUI, button responses were sluggish, and every time a page was changed (customer move to another room, etc.) the GUI would take another 45 seconds to reload. It was extraordinarily frustrating to use. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you out there had done this before with any success or had any ideas. My suspicion is that the interface is slow because the wireless card in the T4 is 802.11b.

There was a thread here a while back where we went through this.

yeah, I saw some of the older posts, but they seem to be from when flash first came onto the scene on the T4's. I was just wondering if anyone had any more specific experiences like mine or came up with any solutions for it. Is the remote simply to slow?

Its not like there has been a change? The Flash movie on the reQuest is the same, and the version player on the T4 is still the same. Why would there be a change in performance?

The thread really pointed to "someone needed to try it with the K4" and see if the issue was the B-Card or the device itself.

The fact that it is B probably has nothing to do with it, B supports up to 11Mbps which should be more than enough speed to talk to a ReQuest, streaming a movie from a server to a player with a Kaleidescape system uses less than 11 Mbps. AMX panels only recently switched from B to G and there is no noticable difference and they are super fast with B. Now the brand of the card or the firmware could make a difference as well as the version of Flash they are running, plus I am sure that the processor in the T4 itself isn't the fastest thing out there.

The reason I brought up the issue, on the other thread, with testing with a K4 is that the K4 is the exact same processor, software, etc as the T4. The only difference is the K4 has a hardwired 10/100 ethernet jack and the T4 is wireless. If it loads fast and runs fine on the K4 then the issue then has to be with the wireless.

If you review that other thread I and others mentione that there are other factors that affect wireless speed as well. On a "B" network any of those things will make a bigger performance hit vs. the same device on a "G" network. If the customer is using encription, this also will slow perfomance. This also could come down to the antenna that the T4 has as well as the network chip/card they are using for connection.

What is the signal strength, on the T4, in the place you are trying to run the request web page?

I too told a customer that this could be done with the T4. However, my saving grace was that this was during the time when we were waiting for this to be enabled on the T4 and the customer knew that. I then had no choice but to make screens using the interface to control the request and thus the customer has to use the TV. Based on what I have heard on the forums, I haven't run back there to install the flash and luckily he hasn't called asking for it either.
