Hi all.

We have a system installation coming up this month, and the customer has just requested having his curtains automated. I have integrated curtains into remotes in the past, but we (as a company) have never got to spec the product. This will be used with a T2c and an RP6. Either contact closure/12v/rs232 could be used; I guess I'd prefer not to use the 12v. if possible. Ones I have done in the past have been IR. This would be a last resort. It's a semi no budget system (McIntosh processor and amps, speakers, etc., motorized screen and projector lift, also a 60" Elite for when not using theater mode). The guy just wants the best, and wants to be able to hit a single button to make it all happen. No problem, except for the window treatments. So I come before the board of experts, as I so often do, for knowledgable advice.

And for those who question the T2c, the guy likes buttons, and didn't want the T4.

Thanks for the help with this, and for all of the knowledge I've drawn from here in the past.

I'm also going to post this in the Custom forum as well, if rules allow.

If you want the best, look at the Lutron Sevoia QED

Savoia is by far the best out there, easy to integrate with anything and whisper quiet!

I have also use Draper RS232 modules to control high/low voltage triggers for many shades on other budget jobs, works just fine, but not as nice or pretty as Savoia.

Thanks guys for the answers. Looks like the Lutron is just what we need.

Just a couple more questions.

What is your recommendation for control of the Lutron curtains? I didn't see anything on the site but their in-wall control or IR control. Is there a 232 option?

Thanks again.

Their IR is decent, but I'd go with the RS-232 option for the best control of the product. They also have a contact closure interface if that were to work better for you.

Pick how you want to control it and you can do it with the Lutron Blinds. If you're using GrafikEye for lighting control, they have some that support built in blind control.

I am a Lutron dealer and love the Savoia QED. Lutron does not make a stand alone 232 interface. Your only choices are IR and contact closure, CC. Since you are using an RP-6 you can control a group of shades with only two relays or to add a preset you will need all three. There is a way to set the SVQ-CCI-8 CC interface to send the close command with one relay and a open command on another relay, and when you close a relay when the shades are moving it the shades stop. This is not the default setting but the shade installer should be able to make it happen. With only these three relays you can control up to 254 shades.

Hope this helps.
