I need to do two runs of serial from an RP6 approx 100' - 150' to two TV sets in two different rooms over rs-232.

I have read about distance limitations of rs-232 to be 25'. Not sure if that is correct or not. But is there a way/product that I can do this.

An explanation at
[Link: taltech.com]
says that you can do 100 feet at 9600 baud, and up to 1000 feet at 110 baud. More length or speed if the wire is shielded. I googled "serial control length limit."

Internet searches used to be such a puzzle to me because you had to come up with just the right rarely used terms to get anything more than millions of unhelpful links. It seems that google is smarter than that now. Although that search yielded 2.5 million results, the fourth one was named "Introduction to RS232 Serial Communications."
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

There are options available such as:

[Link: zantech.com.au]

NOTE: never used this product, but I know I've seen other options as well.

The way I would do it, is to put an RP6 in the remote location, and link IR signals (trigger commands) to this RP6
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...

I could do this but then you are sending the $$ of the 2 Rp6's just to hookup 1 tv via serial in each room.

Not to mention I would have to see if I could fit it behinfd the plasma TV becuase there is no where else in the room to hide it.

Xantech has a piece named XtralinkIP, that allows you to send RS-232 over an existing network. Xantech's site looks like it is down right now, but I suspect that the cost of the two of those pieces, that are need it to achieve this, is way over the cost of the RP6.
Changing the baud rate is not going to help, if the TV's protocol doesn't allow different rates. T
here is also a solution from Global Cache that allows you to send RS-232 over IP but I don't think there is a way to couple it with RTI.
Regarding how to send RS-232 over cat 5, it is really simple, just use a DB9 to RJ45 adapters on each end.
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

I have taken full 1000ft spools of cat5 in my office before and had no problems sending 232 commands from AMX. I routinely send 232 to tvs throughout homes at the distance you are asking about and then some. The limitations listed are specs and not necessarily real world numbers. Go ahead and try hooking it up straight through and if it works 100% of the time great, if not just make sure you have a backup plan set up ahead of time.
