Any issues using one RP-6 output for 2 different sources? I am using an anamorphic lens slide (4 commands) and a Stewart Electrimask BRIC control screen (10 commands). Both use RJ-45 (cat5 SE) and I have a Serial to RJ45 adapter. I would combine the RJ-45 cables into a 2 to 1 splitter and then into adapter and into the 1 RP-6 output. Would there be any issues doing so as I have run out of outputs on my RP-6...?

HAve never tried it, but I wouldn't count on that working. Get a second RP6, or get an RP1, move an IR only device to the RP1 and use the now open port of the RP6 for the odd device out.

You can see if one of these would work [Link: xantech.com]
I have always wondered if it would work or not

The Xantech device that SDZD points to "should" work as the RP6 is only one way, so all commands should just get replicated to the other three ports. As long as the serial devices don't have overlapping command sets, that should work.

Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question...

I have never used them personally but someone recommended there name when someone was trying to do something similar with a Netstreams system.

Thought I would throw it out there but glad to know I should avoid it.

I have done this and it works fine, so long as you are only addresing one serial device at a time

Easy )))
I have created a special black box with 1 IR & 1 RS232 input and 16 RS 232 outputs, can be up to 25 )))
But without special piece of HW it could work too, but it depends how correctly are RS232 inputs designed ...
At some installation I needed one more RS232 port, so I tried to switch one RS232 output by internal relays to two devices, at first switch ON only that corresponding relay, pause for 0,5 sec an then send a command.
I was lucky, it was working and for more than 2 years no complain from client.
