Does anyone know if the IR input jack on the back of a Pioneer Elite 59AVI DVD Player is a standard IR input?? I am currently controlling the unit with a stick on emitter from the front, but would like to control it from the jack in the back to make it look better. I plugged the same mini IR cable that is powering the emitter into the "IR in" in the back, but get no response. Any ideas on how to control the unit from the IR in jack?? Thanks.

Those are not IR In/Outs. They are for Pioneer's SR (System Remote) connections to other Pioneer equipment.
They don't use a standard IR signal.

Is there a way to learn the Pioneer's SR codes and transmit those instead?

Not really.
They are basically the IR code with the carrier frequency stripped off.
However there is no tool that does that that I know of except for a Crestron applet but even it is "iffy".

Do the newer Elite recievers use this SR code? I had thought they had IR in/out, but I am not sure now...

Thanks

We still have the SR In/Out (labeled "Control") most products except inexpensive DVD players. Plasma displays have Control Out only.
Elite receivers have IR In/Out, Blu-ray Players have IR In, and the new Elite displays have IR Out. I'm hoping that more models have IR In/Out added in the future.
About the Elite receivers, you can use the IR In then an emitter to control components and ALSO use the Control Out to Pioneer components that have Control In. You only have to use emitters on non-Pioneer components (or those DVD players that I mentioned).
