Hi everyone - great forum here!

Quick, maybe dumb question.... I've got a T3 working in conjunction with an RP6 and am trying to control several Onkyo products (DVD, Receiver, Tuner) via their rear IR ports. For whatever reason, I can't get any response out of the Onkyo pieces....
Here are some details of my system....
I've got about 50 feet from the RP6 to the component rack
I'm running 3.5mm from the RP6 ports to each rack piece
I'm not in standalone
I've tried running the IR as a macro and a button command - with the same no result
I'm running some RS232 codes through other ports to A/V switcher and it works fine
I've learned the codes via IR Pro and tested them in standalone via the T3 (they work)

What am I missing here?? Is 50ft too long a run for the IR signal out of the RP ports?
Is there a better cable configuration for this application?

I don't think you should have a problem with that length although you can always increase the signal by turning the small screw in the "+" direction on whatever port you're connected to. I think it's default to half.
Have you tried using an emitter and holding it in front of the unit?
Do you have a visual feedback emitter to see if the signal is in fact reaching the receiver?
Did you make sure that the ring is connected to the ring and the tip is connected to the tip on the ir cable (3.5mm) Reversing it will cause it to fail.
Did you use the adapters that come with the RP6?
Just some ideas you might what to try or double check.

TitaniumEye has all the variables listed except one, and all need to be checked unless you accidentally fix it along the way.

Have you ever successfully introduced a signal into the back of the Onkyo? Since all three don't respond, it could be that. Maybe Onkyo needs the carrier stripped, maybe not. I'd try a Xantech sensor output hooked into the rear of the Onkyo just to test that a standard signal will work. Better would be a Xantech sensor and distribution block, where you supply an LED signal to the jack on the Onkyo. The Xantech doesn't strip the carrier, so if Xantech works, an RP6 output would work.

Also, look up the specs on a Xantech 79410. That's to be used when a straight IR wired signal doesn't work. If they list Onkyo as working with that unit, then indeed a standard IR signal won't work.

I've used the rear IR inputs of two different Onkyo receivers, and they worked fine without having to strip out the carrier. Now one thing to check is that the Onkyo receivers have two input jacks, one labeled IR IN and the other RI (remote control). You want to plug into the IR IN. The RI input is a proprietary Onkyo interface.

Now that may be your problem on the DVD and Tuner devices, since the ones I've used only had RI inputs. To control the DVD and Tuner using these rear jacks, connect the receiver's RI jack to the DVD and Tuner RI jacks. The DVD and Tuner should have two jacks to allow for a daisy chain. Also, for RI to work you must have analog audio cables hooked up the receiver, even if you are using digital. Then, you send the DVD and Tuner commands "through" the receiver using the receivers code set for those devices.

Anyway, I hope this helps some.

Thanks for the input! Now I've got a few more things to check....

I've tried the RTI adapters and increased the IR output to no avail. Today I'm going to evaluate my signal at the rack. My gut tells me it's something simple....hope I'm right.

At this point I'm willing to try anything....I'll keep you all posted....
