Hey all -

I've been beating my head to what is probably an obvious question.

I have a multi-source, multi-zone system that is Elan centric with all RTI remotes. In order to control the ADT security system I need to fire off an RS232 command.

I've got an RP-6 connected via RS232 serial. T4 and T2Cs are controlling the 5 zones. Each zone has a component balun that terminates into a central storage closet that contains the rack. Each of the IR flashers that are terminated are plugged into their respective zone ports on the Elan S-12.

What I am trying to figure out is how to integrate the RP-6 so that it can receive the IR flasher signal from any of the 5 zones?

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

YOu want to armand disarm the security from the RTIs? You need a CM2332 connected to the ADT panel that has a 232 port. Just program the RTIs to fire the commands. You get no feedback, so it is sub optimal. The Elan is out of the loop. Or use an Elan SS1 with a VIA touchscreen, change the security panel to a GE (concord, etc) and get full 2 way control of the alarm panel.

I personally would not integrate an alarm panel unless I had feedback. Let themuse the ADT keypads.

Found a solution. Pretty simple actually. End-to-end it goes like this. IR flasher in local room via Cat5e Balun to Elan S-12. Use Elan S-12 IR All Port as Output to RP-6 ground/in via mono cable. Port 1 on RP-6 to CM-232 cable. CM-232 cable to Security system 232 cable.

Since S-12 receives all IR commands from every zone, the RP-6 receives all the signals regardless of source and each RTI remote in the solution uses the exact same trigger command.

rlustig makes an excellent point, though, which you didn't cover. There's no feedback from the alarm panel. How do you know the command has been received and acted upon? I mean, unless the alarm sounds when you get up and start to walk around!

Just for reference, I was stopped dead trying to understand what you were talking about...I see what you meant. Flashers flash, that is to say, they put out IR; you meant sensors or pickups.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The ADT control panel will allow you 2-way status messages, but customer hates the Via panels and is waiting for RTI products to do two way and are ready to invest in a lighting solution next year for more robust information (they wanted home theatre first).

As for not having two way feedback, the alarm system chimes once when the alarm is set. So the feedback is audible and not via the remote. Same applies when you disarm the system.

And yeah, I meant IR receiver not flasher.
