I am interested to know how you document the RTI systems that you install. By documentation, I mean a printable log of the equipment used and all the connections and cables used so that it is easy to go back for service calls and not spend an hour figuring out how you connected everything the first time. This is probably easy for the people that use Netzoom or D-tools or Visio but what do others do?

We mainly use RTI for home theaters so I have created a template that we complete when designing a system so that it makes it easier for us. It is very basic but it helps us a lot. I would like to post it here for comments and see how it can be improved. Is there anyway to post a pdf or a word file here or do I have to send it to anyone interested by email?

Can you please send it to me? I would love to take a look. I currently use a spreadsheet system that is not great.

Thanks,
Vincent

Let me first say that we are a very small company. We only carry a handful of brands.

We do nearly every single system the same way. Using the same logic. From the order that we use the ports on the RP6 to which inputs we use for each source. Not to mention, all you need to do is look at the programming to see what is plugged into what.

EVERY wire gets labeled.

If I thought we could be organized enough to fill out a sheet for every job AND file it properly, I'd do it.

I do nearly all the service calls, and I don't have many issues.

I created RP-1 and RP-6 layout sheets, as well as a receiver connection sheet

We do the IR the same on all systems....

Port 1 Display
Port 2 receiver/pre-pro
Port 3 main source (cable box/sat box)
Port 4 DVD
Port 5 VCR/lights/aux source 1...CD or similar
Port 6 lights/shades/aux source 2....tape or similar

we even layout port numbers for the RP-1 outboard ir hub...EB-5 or CB60
on the RP-6 we use a silver sharpie to label the short jumpers as well as label the ir plugs

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I will try and make them nicer and also do one for my system, which is a bit more advanced than our clients', and I will send it to all of you in the next days.

SDZD,

I have not received any email from you.

Me too, please.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
