I have my first RK1 on the bench and I dig it so far. The light colors open up new avenues for keypad programming for sure.

Here is one thing I do not get... You can set a different color than the page default color for any or all buttons on a page as part of a standalone macro. The odd thing to me is this... after the completion of the macro the button that was pushed returns to the default color but any other button that changed as a result of the macro will not return to the original color unless directed to do so.

Right now I am just playing with ideas but here is the scenario.

RK1-8... 6 source pages each with its own distinctive color (iPod, CD, Sirius, Tuner, Cable Music, DVD Audio). each page consists of Power (input source selection and/or zone power on), Source (source page advance), Pause, Play, Skip+, Skip-, Volume Up, Volume Down.

When I press the "Source" button the source page advances to another color. From any source page a single press of "Power" initiates power/input and a press and hold of 2 sec. powers off.

When I power on I have the power button back light alternate green-white several times to indicate powering up and I would like the button to stay green, however, it always returns to the page default color. Alternately, when I power off, I have all the buttons alternate red-white several times after which the power button returns to default color and the rest of the buttons stay red unless, of course, I set them back again.

Seems odd? One would think you could set the power button to stay on any color as a result of an action.

One dissapointing thing I have noticed is that the color representation has quite a bit of variation from button to button. Some of the lighter colors (yellow, cream, pink etc...) are unusable... esp. yellow.

If you hadn't seen this thread search for it "RK1-8 Question/Suggestion". It has some other thoughts on the RK1 that I haven't fully digested yet (no time right now to work the learning curve). I have to tackle the RK1 in a month or two for a job that I laid out. Maybe this thread will give some insight into how other guys are working with the RK1. I saved that thread to review when my job programming gets closer.

Please post your thoughts to this thread once you finish your program, so I may also get a leg up on the RK1.

Good luck....... and thanks in advance for your insight on this product!

We just finished one that has a different color for each source. When you press the source, all of the buttons (except source buttons) change to the color of the source. Is this what your are trying to do? Let me know and I can email you the file and let you check it out.

I already have a working implementation similar to what you describe.

My issue was this...

If you press a button and have it change color in a standalone macro, it will change back to the default color after the execution of the macro regadless of the last color set in the macro.

If you want the pressed button to change color... say from red to green (and stay green) to indicate a power state... without changing to another page, it will not not work that way as far as I have found.

You can, however, change the color of other buttons without defaulting back to the page color or changing pages.

This seems very odd to me.

In my configuration, a press of the power button will power the zone on (plus select input), flash green for a few seconds and then return to the default color. A push and hold of two seconds will power off the zone and flash red before returning to the default color. I would prefer the button to either stay red or green to indicate status (one way workaround I realize).
