Best way to extend CM-232 and SPS-1

Prewiring the hell out of my basement before the walls are rocked. I want to use RS-232 for my projector and a Video synch module (SPS-1) NOT VPS-1. What is the best way to extend these? Anyone had luck with a 20 foot run? That is the distance between my equipment closet and theater room.

I have made many 232 cables with cat5 and the soildering on the ends. Never tried anything on vps1 or sps1?!

You can do 100 feet + on the RS232 using adapters for cat-5, you can use just about any conductinve wire for the sps-1, just so long as the device providing the current will not overpower the wires safe limitations,

I second the CAT5 adapters. I just use a RJ45 to serial adapter (either male or female) that I configure for straight through or null modem use. This way I only carry two parts.
