How does this little fella work? More specificly how would it work on say a Plasma. How does it interface with the power to see if it is on?

Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question... |

Well it senses video from say a dvd player so you can do a macro based on the status of the device(on or off). I haven't tried to do it on a plasma but I would rather use rs232 if possible.

Um no. It sences the power not the video. In the document it has an adaptor on it but I was wondering how it senced the power. I understand the rest of the macro portion.

The video sensor might work if there is an output that is hot only when the TV is on. The power sensor would work if there was a switched outlet on the back of the plasma (pretty unlikely), else you could interface it with a Niles light sensor to feed the power sensor, which would then tell you the power status.

SPS is for is for video VPS is for power sense
You need an RP-6, There are 3 ways to use this device
Conect directly to a 3 - 24 volt supply such as a wall wart connected to a reciver....
Use the aformentioned optical sensor
Use in combination with a Xantech current flow sensor, which would be the best choice for use with a stand alone plasma.

Chees:
Are you using an RP6 or an RP1? You can power sync with either of them using either the aforementioned Xantech power sensing unit, or a Niles apc-2 (I think...) power sensing outlet. I have used the Niles pieces several times over the years (not sure if that exact model is still available though) on TVs and plasmas that have no discrete IR commands available. Post your TV and control combo, and you'll get the answers you're looking for.
By the way, it is a good time to live in Green Bay, except for the weather. I'll take the Vegas weather :) .

JAI,
Are you saying that the Xantech CSM-1 can be used directly with the RP6 in place of the VPS-1? I would be looking to sense whether or not a Pioneer Pro150FD is turned on or not, since I have no two-way RS232 using the RP6.
