I want to upgrade my Elan HD system which is max'd out at 10 zones:
I could add another Elan HD unit but am wondering what you guys use for whole house audio? I think the Elan HD is discontinued
Looking for something that integrates easily with RTI Touchpads: amps can be separate or built in (already have separate Audio Architect multzone amps)
Have been looking at the Speakercraft MZC-88: using two of them would work: but it seems to lack a tone generator for doorbell? I need the doorbell function but it only seems to provide for a doorbell mute?

B&K CT series products are at the top of my short list.
We did a few of the Speakercrat MZ-66 and had a bunch of failures, they even sent a replacement and the power button did not work. D'oh

I personaly like the Elan s Series. 2 S12 stacked would give you 16 zones (8 Apiece stackable up to 32). Plus you can integrate a doorbell into it via the Z600. The S Series is very easy to control RS232 also.

Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question... |

I have had OK luck with the MZC series and have really reliable control of them through their RSA 232 adapter.
For the doorbell I use the Niles DBI-1 doorbell interface. It has two contact closures and each can be set to one of the 6 or 8 pre-programmed doorbell tones and it has either a contact closure or 12v output trigger. This unit feeds the doorbell input of the MZC or an unused input on the B&K and the 12v trigger initiates the doorbell sequence in the multiroom controller to switch to the door bell input for 3 or 4 seconds and then back to whatever it was doing.
If you have a choice, I would take the B&K over the MZC, Russound, Xantech, etc Chinese manufactured multiroom system in a heartbeat any day of the week.

Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"... |
